After the WBC’s #5 ranked Lightweight Miguel “El Anestesista” Huerta battered Daniel Alicea with a ferocious body assault, there was only one question from the Lightweight contender after the third round stoppage. “Where’s David Diaz? I’m ready to face the champion,” stated Huerta afterwards. “I know he’s here tonight and I’d love a chance at the WBC title.”
Huerta (26-8, 18 KO’s) fought on Friday in Cicero, Illinois which is a stone’s throw from Chicago where the current WBC champion David Diaz resides. Diaz was ringside for the event.
“Before being the champion nobody wanted me, now everybody wants me,” commented David Diaz when asked about the possibility of a match up against the Mexico City native. “That’s something we’re going to discuss. At this point we’re looking for bigger and better fights.”
“I can see where he’s coming from,” said Huerta when relayed Diaz’s comments. “Or maybe he didn’t like what he saw in the ring against Alicea. Those were some hard bombs I was landing. Maybe it worried him a little bit.”
