What Roy Jones Jr. vs. Felix Trinidad Is About...

The fight makes no sense if you look at it on paper. If Roy beats Trinidad he beat an old, coming off a 2 year layoff, blown up Tito. If Tito beats Roy he beat a 39 year old Roy Jones who hasn't looked like a prime Jones in 5 years...but has looked pretty good latley. I think there is more to gain here for Tito if he wins than if Roy wins. Jones is the bigger man and his style shouldn't be easy for Tito. Plus Roy in his last two fights has looked pretty good. So if Trinidad can someone how win he does deserve some credit.IMO. This fight is about four things...

    1.) Money...$$$$$$
2.) Tito and Roy both attempting to impress.
3.) I want the winner of Calzaghe/Hopkins or another big fight in the future.
4.) Its a last hurrah year for both Roy and Tito, I would be suprised if Roy faught into his 40's.

The motivation for Roy and Tito should be to land one more big fight before the retire. To get that big fight they have to impress and entertain. Thats what this fight is about, two fighters past their prime trying to show they still have it. To me this is the only rational for this fight, otherwise it make absolutley no sense.

That was my first thought when I heard the announcement for this fight.
It made no sense, more so for Tito.

roy jones has a history of hand picking his opponents, this is no different.

he knows his glass jaw is his only marketability, his speed and reflexes dont impress

the only way his fights sell are if he gets in with a puncher....

trinidad is a puncher, but not a 170 pounder, thats why jones hand picked him for this.... hell would freeze over before he fought a guy like kessler at 170.

Rj & Tito are legends & 2 of the best fighters of our era. After RJ beats Tito he will probably call out Calzaghe who will be too busy handpicking a fight with B Hop a 43 yr old who already lost to RJ once & JT twice.

Frist off I like the name match up. Its good for boxing. They were both going to fight again. So either fight nobodys(RJJ carrer in a nutshell) or make a big fight.

Im not so sure about RJJ having such a easy time. The weight hes put on and took off isnt good for him. Hes getting older and 170 is a red flag.

I agree with you that really weakens a fighter when they bounce up and down in weight like that. Its like when Roy came down from heavy to fight Tarver..he was flat in that fight he edge out Tarver the 1st time but he was just totally fighting with gutts becuase you can see how he was tired and struggling.

tito has alot to gain if he wins tito said he wants to be a 4 division champion so he said he wants to fight for a title at 168 and his other target is avenge his defeat to hopkins by beating jones he would brag that he defeated a man that jones beat before.
