Exposed by Cortez..........its vital a referee does'nt interfere in a fight, which is exactly what he did vs PBf and to say that Tszyu would have won by KO in Vegas is bull**** kosta has had his time and should stay gone........

I would love to see him come back but he probably doesn't have it anymore. He's been gone a long time...

I stopped reading at this point because anyone who makes that statement clearly has nothing sensible to say.

Just to set the record straight, I wasnt making excuses, just responding to a comment by the thread starter about Hatton being "exposed" as a grappler by Joe Cortez, he clearly was not watching the same fight.
Hatton grapples, hold and hits, and hits and holds...he is good at mixing it up.

The Tszyu fight was the first and beginning of Hit and Hold/Hold and hit Hatton. Prior to that, I was liking him very much.

The Hit and Hold, Hold and Hit, Grapple style came in to play specifically for Tszyu. Going into the fight they knew age and inactivity would or at least hoping it would effect the older Champ...especially since Tszyu was still trying to make weight after all these years...going up and down in weight when not fighting.

Tszyu does tend to grapple as well though, just not as much as I saw Hatton doing...Tszyu prefers to box.
Actually, I'm not completely against it, but holding and then hitting or hitting once then holding is annoying.

Our Kosta (Aussie Land). I hope he comes back. I seriously doubt whether he can even compete let alone beat Floyd, especially at his age though.

He runs his own boxing academy in Sydney and trains and handles a few fighters, he still keeps in shape, not fighting shape obviously but he is still working out and keeping fit (I'm from Sydney).

But if this fight was in vegas, and Cortez was the ref, I dont think the fight would have played out differently at all. Cortez was a little overactive at first, probably because of statements made by Mayweathers team, but then after a few rounds it appeared as though somebody had a word with him as he became a lot less active than he was, but still a little too active. Without Mayweathers team bitching about Hatton being a dirty fighter I dont think he would have been very active at all, so if he was fighting Zu, who didnt complain, the fight would be exactly the same.

Cortez might have wanted to make sure it was an active fight...a fight involving more punching than holding.

You still aren't supposed to be allowed to headlock someone, hold and hit, hit and hold (which is frowned upon), rabbit punches, etc.

Only one point was taken in the entire fight.

Was Floyd guilty of holding and fouling as well, yes. Let's look at what he was doing. He knew Hatton was going to come out trying to bully him, charging right at him, hold and hit when on the inside. Floyd's move was to do the same right back at Hatton, which not only worked, but it played with Hatton's mind, at least I think so. Hatton hits Floyd behind the head, then Floyd follows a bit later on. Both did get warnings.
Floyd's elbows were used more for shoving/making space/blocking.

Tszyu isn't one to complain all that much so you are using the wrong fighter. I could see Kostya telling himself to cope with the loss (afterwards), that he should have prepared better, prepared for the unexpected, legal or not.

I also remember when Tszyu would tie up Hatton, and Hatton couldn’t do anything, Ricky would wink at the ref and he (the ref) would break them up, but not the other way around.

I would have liked to see what Smoger would have done in both fights.
