Should Weigh-ins Be On Fight Night?

I'm just wondering how weigh-ins can be done a few days before a fight, which in turn allows fighters to totally outweigh each other come fight night.

If weight divisions are all about having fighters of the same weight fight each other, then why are all the weigh-ins done a day or so before the fight, allowing a large discrepancy between fighter's weights.

It kind of sounds absurd to me, and defeats the purpose of having weight divisions.

they are done a night before..this is a formality..the wieght they gain after the weigh in does not give them any advantage of speed or power.....

No, because people would go broke.

If fighters failed to make weight at the last minute, that would affect all promotions that preceded the fight. It's bad enough when guys don't make weight a few days before the fight.

Sadly No! because boxers kill themselves to make weight and imagine having to fight on an empty stomach.

yea but I often hear of how fighters outweigh each other by a good 10 pds in the lower weight divisions on actual fight nights.

Fighters have 24 hrs to rehydrate for the fight, some of them have been on an empty stomach for a couple of days before the weigh in.

                It's not going to work.

Fighters have a hard enough time making weight days before the fight, and are given multiple chances to step on the actual scale.........as well as the necessary accomodations to burn the calories/sweat the water out.

it worked for all those years before ray mancini-duk koo kim and the aborted michael spinks-eddie mustafa muhammad rematch.
