Joan Guzman Ducking Katsidis 3 times Already

HBO CANCELS FEB 9 DIAZ-KATSIDIS DATE

    PhilBoxing.com
    Sun, 16 Dec 2007

Sources close to the situation have reported that HBO has scrapped the Feb. 9, 2008 date previously calendared for Juan Diaz vs Michael Katsidis. This came about as Don King Promotions had sent letters to HBO and organizers of the said bout about DKP's promotional hold of Diaz's next bout.

The source further added that Joan Guzman had been offered to fight Katsidis on Feb 9 instead but Guzman refused saying that Feb 9 was too close for him to prepare for the bout. Guzman had reportedly balooned to 160 lbs barely a month after demolishing Humberto Soto in Atlantic City. This is the third time Guzman refused to face Katsidis for one reason or another.

Golden Boy Promotions won the purse bid for the Diaz-Katsidis bout for $1.5M and both Diaz and Katsidis had reportedly signed the contract until Don King laid claim for the exclusive right to promote Diaz's next bout that jeopardize the Feb. 9 event.

So despite pronouncements by Diaz's manager, Willie Savannah, to the contrary, the Feb. 9 Diaz-Katsidis fight is dead.

In further development, the source added that HBO had calendared March 8, 2008 for Diaz-Katsidis, to give all parties -- Don King Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions, the Diaz and Katsidis camps -- time to talk and make the fight happen.

Willie Savannah had been at odds with Don King and Savannah had openly stated that they are not going to renew King's contract with Diaz which ends on March 31 next year. King, meanwhile, had been using of what remains of his contract with Diaz to either extend, negotiate or make more money out of it. King had reportedly asked for $2M to let Diaz go free.

There were talks that Golden Boy might just dig into its deep pockets to make Don King happy.

Jesus, Don King that ****ing prick. That was going to be a great fight.

On a side not it's crazy how big Guzman is for 130. It makes you wonder how the hell he made 122 a couple years back.

dwin Valero Turns Down Joan Guzman, Guzman Turns Down Rocky Kastidis!

          Michael Marley
          BREAKING NEWS FROM ******************.COM!
          12/14/2007

CANCUN--First, Edwin Valero turned down a fight with fellow unbeaten 130-pound world champion Joan Guzman. The Venezuelan slugger’s estimable promoter, Honda-San of Teiken would like to get Valero licensed in the United States, get in two fights on either Showtime or HBO and then send his power puncher in against Guzman. Manny Pacquiao or Juan Manuel Marquez.

Btw, a free ******************.com tee-shirt will be going out to the Dan Rafael residence, hopefully in time for the holidays, as ESPN’s fight scribe confirmed Friday my scoop earlier this week that the Valero interests are inquiring about getting a license in ****ie Cole’s Great State of Texas. Hey, Danderoo, I am sure this was an oversight but you forgot to credit ******************.com with that genuine scoop. Harmless error, Danno, I think not!

Now Guzman manager Jose Nunez has rejected a fight for his superb Dominican stylist against awesome Aussie Michael “Rocky” Kastidis, a Feb. 9 date on HBO. Guzman just beat Humberto Soto on the cable network Nov. 18 and is in the midst of a holiday break. Less than two months notice did not give Guzman time enough to get ready for the brawling Kastidis.

Let’s make this clear: Valero does not fear Guzman and Guzman does not fear Kastidis. What Valero and Guzman share is the fear of not being paid properly or having enough time to get into the proper condition.

This is the second time this year that a Guzman-Kastidis matchup has fallen apart although this offer from Golden Boy was never accepted. Guzman and Kastidis signed to fight once but Guzman was forced to withdraw due to a hand injury.

The Feb. 9 HBO date is a mess, having been originally set for Juan Diaz’s mandatory WBO lightweight title defense against interim champ Kastidis. GBP won the purse bid with a $1.5 million offer and had an HBO fee of the same amount to back it up.

But Diaz’s contact dispute with promoter Don King has sent this plan into turmoil. King’s legal notice letters have gone out to all concerned parties.

As explained earlier on ******************, Diaz manager Willie Savannah contends that they are completely free and clear of King come March 31. On his part, King maintains that Diaz owes him one more bout plus some future consideration and that the one bout does not include a mandatory defense of any of the three world title belts the Houston boxer, also an unbeaten, has in his collection.

Something’s got to break soon on this convoluted situation. Just an educated guess here but does Mr. De La Hoya dip into his piggy bank and give Uncle Don a hefty buyout?

          Stay tuned…

Aside from the hand injury he rejected Katisidis several times already.. He know he will lose to Katisidis the way Katisids handles his opponent.

              This is silly.

How is turning down a fight because of seven weeks notice (five if you want the holidays with your family) a "duck"?

Guzman gives Kadsitas a clinic and counters him all night. he has no reason to duck Kadsitas at all. (which i dont think he is)

I think he's in his 80's already. The other promoters seem to have agreed to sacrifice a little more money to please the fans, but King is still doing the same old ****. If the guy dropped dead tomorrow boxing fans would rejoice.

He'd do the same to Valero too.
