What's with Malignaggi?

I didn't miss the fact he holds a worthless IBF belt at all.Yes, you missed the fact that Paulie holds the IBF belt that used to belong to Hatton. He came back down after Collazo to fight Urango, who held his title. He's expected to do the same this time and fight Paulie.
BTW, those of you saying he should fight Witter don't really know Hatton. He's stated more times than I can count that he's NEVER going to face Witter, no matter what.
But who has he(Paulie) fought and beaten world class to gain number 1 contender status?
I know the history with Witter as well mate.
Thing is though if Hatton wants to keep some kind of credibility he should give Witter a chance bearing in mind he is the more accomplished fighter and higher ranked with the most valuable belt...if there is one anymore.
As far as I see it right now , Hatton doesn't really have many real options of fighting anyone he can beat who will earn him megabucks or add to his "legacy".
The only fights he could earn are against the likes of Cotto or a Mayweather re-match and he would lose both.
Personally I think he should hang them up.
He has proved he was top dog at 140 and right now there is no real competition to question that.
If he has any sense he will enjoy his money and be content he was the best at 140 in his time there.Comment

Malignaggi should be a fight before Witter because Malignaggi already has a name with American audiences. It would be a chance for Hatton to complete his American adventure on a high, headline Madison Square Gardens and have another HBO pay per view event to his name. He would be capitalising on his current fame with a fight against a ranked guy who he will probably look good against.
And I live in Toronto so I could go!Comment

are you asking what i would have done? probably the same thing hatton did- fight the more over-the-hill, but bigger named fighter for more money. i think he would have beat either castillo or n'dou easily.
but you asked why malignaggi is in the picture. it's because he has the belt that ricky vacated, and he got it by beating the guy ricky chose not to fight.Comment

Why do you keep calling him #1 contender. He isn't a contender to anything; he's a champion (even if it's just a "paper" championship in some people's view). The reason people mention his name FIRST (if that's what you mean by #1 contender) is because of the trinket he holds (Ricky's old IBF strap) and because most boxing experts know that Hatton will not fight Witter, so there is nobody else of importance at 140 right now (with a belt, anyway).I didn't miss the fact he holds a worthless IBF belt at all.

Also, if you consider Paulie's belt as being "paper," Witter is no different having won the vacant WBC belt that Floyd left behind by beating Chop-Chop, of all people.Comment
