What's up Doug? I haven't written in for a while since your last response to me back on July of 2006, but of course I've been reading your column. How's it been??? The last time we spoke we were talking about the economics/business sense of making a fight with Mayweather vs. Margarito and the reason why "Money May" turned down the 8 Million dollar offer to fight, I believe it was Baldomir. Anyways, I told you that it didn't make "business sense" because Margarito had a loss and he was NOT a draw in the sport.
You responded: "If it's all about business/economics then Margarito would have been the best choice for Floyd's Nov. PPV date. He wasn't going to make $8 mil. fighting anyone else. Now the offer is off the table, so there's no sense in even talking about Mayweather vs. Margarito. So I hope Floyd can make $8mil. fighting Baldomir or Cory Spinks this fall. If not, I'd say he made a bad business decision."
Well Dougie, I must say… Look at what has happened since then... Today Mayweather is P4P best fighter in the world, he is the highest paid athlete, not fighter, but athlete in the world right now and he is still the one to beat at Welterweight. You have Sugar Ray Leonard, Bernard Hopkins, Kosta Tszyu and even the Golden Girl saying that he is the best P4P fighter in the world… Then you have Sugar Ray Leonard and Bernard Hopkins both saying that he is the best fighter of their respective era's up to the present. Your boy Margarito got another loss from Paul Williams (I guess this raised his stock in your eyes even more)… He was YOUR hero to dismantle Mayweather at Welterweight remember? Now who's going to pay to see him now??? Now you wanna talk about glass chin Cotto… Shane Mosley, who is far from his prime, gave Cotto all that he could handle in their fight and if he had a better punch, Shane would have knocked Cotto out. Then ZAB JUDAH, who is far from his prime also would have knocked out Cotto if he wouldn't have fouled him throughout the fight. I bet you Cotto won't give Judah a rematch!!!! Cotto didn't want to have his "chin checked" by Judah for sure so that's why he fouled!!! Your boy Cotto has not proven a damn thing. And furthermore for the record (and I hope you print this), Mayweather challenged Cotto, Shane, Winky Wright and they all (except for Winky) backed out of a fight with him. I mean Dougie if you gonna tell it all, tell ALL of the facts!!!
Dougie, you listening Dougie? Dougie… I have one question Dougie. Is your bias against Mayweather the fact that you hate him as a person or are you judging him on his accomplishments/athletic ability/talent/skill?? We already know that you don't care about the business/economics and could care less if the fighters end up broke like the great Mike Tyson. Honestly, I really don't want the answer cause I know the answer and YOU know the answer… But I would hope that you would finally give credit where credit is due. The truth was found EVERYTIME in the ring whenever PBF stepped through the ropes. He has phenomenal skills, excellent ring generalship, and a great chin. Mayweather is the best P4P fighter in the world today and he has NOTHING left to prove to you or anyone else when it's all said and done.
