Ali is not the inventor of the rope a dope.

other guys in the past were very effective in laying on the ropes, getting guys to miss and tire, and countering with precision.

Would you have made this silly thread before the Hatton fight? Beating Hatton proves **** all when it comes to his claim to greatness. All it proved is that he CAN fight and Hatton stinks at 147lb.

Once again: Weight had NOTHING to do with this fight. You can't use that excuse for Mayweather-Hatton, when Floyd himself made his name 2 weight classes LOWER than Hatton. Or when you consider the fact that Hatton labors to make 140. Or when you consider the fact that he weighed 148 against Delahoya.

Mayweather is the better fighter. THAT'S the true explanation.

No kidding, I guess Collazo, who arguably beat Hatton in his only other fight at 147, and almost knocked him out (probably would have with the assistance of a turnbuckle) must be comparable to Ray Robinson as well.

Floyd's resume is the best of his era and noone can match the past resumes because FIGHTERS DONT FIGHT AS MUCH ANY LONGER. ****, it takes us months just to promote a fight! You can't compare them like that. Noone active has even come close to Floyd's resume perhaps only Oscar but he lost those fights (Tito, Floyd, Mosley...). On skill terms he stands alone with Robbinson. He does have power, speed, skill. THE FULL GODAMN PACKAGE! Its a priviledge to have seen him fight. There won't be another Floyd Maywether soon, trust me. Mayb in 10 years or so if we are lucky.

If they met at 147, Tommy would tap that ass. Tommy was out-boxing SRL until he got rocked. And don't knock SRL power, he was a known power puncher in the amatuers and just became careful in the pros, like Floyd later became, of protecting his hands. But when he needed to, he unloaded. SRL was mean as ****, don't let that smile fool you.

I'm not going to write out a full list, but that's the first name to pop into my head, right after SRR at 147.

Umm... I was talking about Mayweather's resume compared to Leonard's.

                    Leonard had 39 fights.

                    Floyd had (gasp) 39 fights.

So that 'fighters don't fight a much' argument really doesn't apply. You really need to do you homework, man.

It's hard for young kids like most of you are, to see this but ask yourself. How many fighters could knock the **** out a 43-0 champion and get out of the camera's picture before he hits the ground? If you don't like him you could say he's top 5. Me, as a fan i say he's top 3. I surely put him ahead of Sugar Ray Leonard. Leonard took too many shots. The only fighter to date to match PBF is pure skill was Robbinson and the other i put ahead of him is Ali for inventing rope defense for boxing. All the other Heavyweights shouldn't even go on a p4p list specially some bums who are usually there for being good not great fighters, Hollyfield, Tyson, Marciano...
                      Ray Robinson

                      Ray Leonard

                      Marvin Hagler

                      Pernell Whitaker

                      Roy Jones Jr

                      Shane Mosley

Just 6 names that came to mind that had the talent to beat Floyd when they were at their best. I put the first 5 names above Floyd on the all time list and I'm not sure about Mosley but in his prime I think he would beat Floyd from 130-147lbs. He'd have a very good chance at beating floyd now and he's 36. Take 6 years off that so he is the same age as Floyd and Mosley wins 8 times out of 10.
