..The Bad Side Of A Good Thing...

Mayweather-Hatton reminded me of all the things I like about boxing. Athleticism, heart, determination, prime-versus-prime athletes risking their lives, big audience and a lot of interest, and a good fight. It also reminded me of some of the bad things that come along with the big fights. I'm not trying to preach here, it's just some things that come up. This is how normal people look at fans who over-react, in my personal opinion. I could be wrong.....

    1. Complaining. Jermain Taylor, Fernando Vargas, Humberto Soto. I pick wrong, you pick wrong, we all do. That's all there is to it. Get over it. I'm sick of hearing all of this talk about how Hatton was cheated, about how Mayweather should have had points deducted. How the referee should have done this or that. How the judging should have been. They were in the wrong weight. It's not important. Mayweather knocked out Hatton. The better man on that night, won.

You can assume that the fight would have been different if Mayweather was docked a point or two, aswell. It might have been. He might have stepped it up earlier. Hatton might have gotten overzealous due to the feeling of a lead. Was the referee involved more than he should have been? Perhaps. You could say that he helped set-up that punch if it makes you feel better. Fact is, I even remember pointing out that the right hand lead would work well for him. I'm not some GREAT psychic. I watch Hatton fight, he gets hit with right hands, quite a bit. Especially from slick, faster guys. Collazo and Mayweather that I can remember off the top of my head.

Hatton fought a great fight, don't sell it short by saying that the ref could COMPLETELY ruin his plan. it's ridiculous.

    2. Bragging. This is strictly to Mayweather fans, obviously. It's pathetic. What did you do? What did you accomplish? Did you train Mayweather? Did you do the road work with him? Help him with sparring? Hold the pads? Are you the fat ex-olympian that wore the body suit? Did you make his trunks? ****, did you co-write "Born In The U.S.A.?" Honestly, you made the right pick. Congratulations. Let's not shoot off in our pants over it. I'm sure Hatton fans would be saying the same thing and I'd still have the same thing to say to them. Grow up.

    3. Hating. This goes to both sides. To the Hatton fans, why hate on the guy that beat your guy? He fought a great fight, stood toe to toe and finished the fight off impressively. It's not that Hatton looked bad, it's that he looked bad in comparison. Nonetheless, you could say he held his own for the most part. Acting s if Mayweather did anything less then a good job, let's me assume that Hatton, in Mayweather haters minds', is even less impressive.

To the Hatton haters, some of you don't seem to get it. Mayweather has claimed Hatton was his toughest fight. I'm not saying I believe him, however one could make the argument. When you sell the opponent short, you make the accomplishment less significant. It's dishonest, but even if the guy SUCKS, you should build him up. Not knock him down. Furthermore, Hatton is a solid fighter, who was undefeated and came from across the ocean to try and accomplish something that not a lot of fighters are brave enough to try. He was doing a decent job at it, too.

    4. If, If, If... The if's have got to stop. This is crazy. If the referee was a bit more fair. If Mayweather would have been penalized. If the fight was in the U.K. If Hatton could have fought his fight. If the fight went the distance, the judges would have robbed Hatton. If Mayweather would have just came out swinging like a wildman, he would have lost. If they fight again, Mayweather will lose. If Mayweather retires, he's scared. If, if, if. If "if" was a fifth, we'd all be drunk. Don't worry about what could have/should have happened. Worry about what DID happen. That's what really matters. It's what you gotta deal with. What did happen is that Mayweather got the W, and that Hatton did what he could. He admits he could have done some things better, but that's how it goes sometimes.

    5. Conspiracy Theories The referee wasn't paid off. The judges weren't going to rob anyone. The commentators weren't trying to sway opinions, just stating their own. Aliens didn't come down and blind Hatton. Mayweather isn't on the juice. Mayweather didn't pull some of the padding off the turnbuckle padding in a pre-fight gameplan. JFK was killed by a LONE gunman and we HAVE gone to the moon.

It's just ridiculous. The most famous one is that the fight was fixed. Two things. Do you know how hard it is to fix a fight. Think of how many people need to know about it. Then think of how many people have to keep it a secret. Then think that they all have to be WILLING to sell themselves for that. THEN think that they pull it all off seamlessly. Were the judges biased? Yes, biased to clean punching and accuracy.

Number two. De La Hoya promoted the fight. He'd oversee who was assigned to what. he wants to fight Hatton next. Why would be possibly hurt the chances of that being viable with a Hatton loss? Why would he WANT that? Wouldn't he want to be the one to take the 0 from Hatton, not Mayweather? C'mon, be serious.

    6. Inability To Move On. This is just simple. Let it go. I know I'm bringing it up again, but I'm only bringing up what the subject itself has brought forth. The fight happened. Both fighters will live and will move on. I suggest a lot of you, do the same.

NOTE: Once again, not trying to sound preachy. I'm just HOPING that things like this wil get the ball rolling on some actually INTERESTING/RELEVANT ****. I don't give a **** about Mayweather and Hatton right now. They're old news. That's all.

Good post C-Drone! I too am sick of all the excuses about the Ref and whatnot. In the end the Ref taking a point didn't mean **** because Ricky got Ko'd. Don't disrespect Ricky by saying all this **** and making up BS excuses. He fought his best and did well but in the end it just wasn't good enough. There is no shame in losing to the best regarded P4P fighter in the world....

Mayweather won every last ounce of my respect with his victory in that fight. Hatton won every last ounce of my respect for never giving up, and continuing to do his best to make it happen for himself.

Neither fighter was diminished in any sense of the word, if anything Mayweather was lifted more than Hatton was diminished.

People complain about reffing because boxing is notorious for dodgy decisions.

In hockey, you usually dont have refs singlehandely ****ing teams over. The same with football, the same with football. Other then a few exceptions, the better team pretty much wins vs. a less qualified team.

Boxing is notrious for corruption and dodgy decisions.

That's why some of us are angry and bitter towards the **** that goes on.

I can see where you're coming from. However, that'd would be ONLY the referees fault. Mayweather doesn't tell him how to do his job. In the dressing rooms, I remember Cortez saying he would take points without warning. Maybe he should have taken from Mayweather, too. However, I've never reffed a fight. That's all I'm saying.

Awesome post and point well taken. Hatton doesn't suck at boxing - he's just not a good boxer. He is good at holding and hitting and if he gets away with it, more power to him. Sorry about your luck, Kostya Tszyu. When the rules are enforced, that's the price you pay for fighting illegally, and Hatton paid the price big time.

No more bragging from me and no more putting Hatton down. I admire his grit and determination, but I despise his fans to the end.
