Frenchman Brahim Asloum won the a world title in his third attempt, moving down to light flyweight, where he outscored Argentinian Juan Carlos Reveco this past weekend in Le Cannet. Asloum thus became the first Frenchman to both win an Olympic Gold and a World title in the pros. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has sent his congratulations to Asloum. It was an important win for French boxing after several (Mormeck, M´Baye, Asloum twice etc) setbacks. Reveco was according to l´Equipe forced to shed an amazing eleven kilos (about 24 lbs) in the six weeks leading up to the fight. [details]
