Emmanuel Steward called it the same thing; it's a term out of Michigan. It is distinguished from a "regular hook" due to how it's set up, which was simply explained above and explained by Floyd and Manny.
I don't care..Comment

It's not something made up...Emanuel Steward called it a "check hook" as well right after Hatton hit the canvas. He tried to call it out as Lampley emotionally narrated what was it happening, but Steward mentioned it. It's not something that Floyd made up.
I'm trying to recall fights where it's happened, but right now I can't. I think Joe Walcott did that in one fight...but I'm not sure. It was in a fight where he was coming in on an opponent and he, according to Bert Sugar, sand-danced into him, bobbed to his right and threw a left hook as his opponent was about to do the same thing. The reason why it's effective is because the other guy is really off balance that split second when he's striking.Comment

Check Hook = Check Mate.
There will be hundreds of excuses to somehow dwarf or negate the Mayweather victory, but at the end of the day the man remains undefeated and Hatton took an L in the worst way ~ TKO.Comment

It is still a hook whatever you attach to it. So he stepped to the side first big deal it is still a hook. Sugar Ray Robinson knocked out Gene Fullmer with the same punch and it is called the perfect punch and the best left hook ever thrown. It is a left hook no matter what you say or anyone else.Comment

couldn't say it better myself, people who obviously bet on Hatton are looking for any excuse, Cortez did what he was supposed to do and that is to break fighters that were clinching. People this was a BOXING match not a wrestling clinic. Clinching and holding is penalizable offence in boxing for a reason. Hatton's hometown referees allow him to do this but this is US. Ask yourselves honestly Hatton fans could Hatton beat Floyd in the middle of the ring No!!!! Get Real to the threadstarter this has got to be a shock thread especially if he thought Hatton was clearly winning the fight. Also when you re-watch the fight listen to how many times the ref warned Floyd as well during the fight and in between rounds as well.Comment

Don't give me this is america bull****. Floyd was the one holding from the start and hitting at the same time. Hatton does it it's not boxing and illegal but when Floyd does it it's genius. He warned Floyd so many times but that was all he did, so not to seem biased but he did **** all about it. Floyd should have been deducted at least 3 points. But you nuthuggers are never gonna see that. If Hatton had run into the corner post he would have won easily.couldn't say it better myself, people who obviously bet on Hatton are looking for any excuse, Cortez did what he was supposed to do and that is to break fighters that were clinching.
