Winning it 9 years apart is a huge accomplishment though. Just think. It means that you were in your prime for 9 whole years and probably the best fighter during that span. James Toney's situation is weird. He had a resurgence.

It's Floyd because he was in the two biggest fights and he won. It's not going to be about quality of wins in this case even though those two wins put him in the running anyway.

That might be in contention for fight of the year.

In all honesty you could say Floyd (moving up to 154 against oscar & then knocking out a young hungry undefeated fighter in hatton) but with him being Mr. P4P he was "expected" to win these fights, so he wont be getting it! I'm pretty sure it will be Pavlik b/c of K.O. wins over Zeruche, Miranda, Taylor! You can make a strong case for Cotto as well (Urkal, Judah, & Mosley)

Where as Miranda and Taylor were IN THERE PRIMES, and Pavlik came in as an UNDERDOG against BOTH of them.

Pavlik DEFINETLY deserves it over Mayweather, but Cotto is in close contention as well.

If Mayweather gets it, and he may, it would only be because he brought so much interest and money to the sport, and not for his actual wins.
You know what you're talking about. Floyds one fight (Oscar) is still kinda contraversial (I had Floyd up by 1 round) I do appaud his performance against Hatton although it's was really like bringing a knife (Hatton) to a gun (Floyd) fight. Where as Paviks last 3 fights left no DOUBT who the winner was because of the incredible fasion he won in. All KO.

You could make arguments for both Floyd and The ghost... Neither one is a wrong answer. Floyd the pound for pound veteran who fought the two biggest fights of his career solidifying his spot as the #1 p4p... And kelly pavlik the underdog who DEMOLISHED edison miranda who at that point was reguarded as the #1 contender and topping it off with the HUGE win over taylor. Both had two major fights in 2007.. It is almost impossible to decifer who had a better year.

I think Pavlik had absolutely the most growth this year. Underdog for the Miranda and Taylor fights, he wasnt even in the top ten before this year and now hes undoubtedly the best fighter in the division.
Also, both his fights were slugfests.

On the other hand, Mayweather had easily the biggest two wins weve seen in a single year in a long time. I couldnt name a more accomplished fighter in one year off the top of my head. Throw in the fame of these two fights, and he will get it easily. besides...that knockout was almost legendary. what a way to end the year...

I dunno, personally I think the whole Fighter of the Year award should go to the guy with the top growth and most exciting fights. Like Glen Johnson or Ayala winning the award, even though Im positive there were fighters with better wins in those years.

then again, FOTY is also a popularity contest. I understand completely people that choose Mayweather and have nothing against it. but I give it to Pavlik

I know, that should not be factored in for this year award.
