manny couldn't be more right. this is stuff that i've been saying for some time now, actually a lot of us have, now it just gets validation from one of the worlds best trainers.

floyds fan boys will deny and probably try and discredit manny by saying " he doesn't know ****!"," manny has been hating on floyd for ever!", etc, etc, etc. when in actuality manny is just doing like a lot of us have been doing, calling it how we see it, calling it how it is!

i feel you dude, you can only be caught up in those semantics ONLY if you're debating w/ an incredibly biased poster, of which i'm not, but of which we have a bounty of here at boxingscene.

will I agree with you I not taking any win of Cotto nor Hatton or any fighter but if you wanna look at the fault of choosen oppennet then you could have it.

and all this Mayweather ducking Cotto when he still training for Hatton. right now that shows Mayweather is not underestimating Hatton he is concentrated on Hatton as a oppenet rather than Cotto or anyone else.

          Some quotes:

Trainer Emanuel Steward, like Arum, is in the Hall of Fame. He doesn't understand all the fuss about Mayweather, either. In his mind, Mayweather has gone about avoiding all of the other true top welterweight fights.

Steward mentioned Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams and "Sugar" Shane Mosley as fighters Mayweather should be trying to fight, but won't.

"I think a guy who fights against the best competition, and has his performance against the best," Steward said, describing his idea of a great pound-for-pound fighter. "How can you be pound-for-pound (best) when you don't want to fight the best?"

Mayweather, 30, was offered $8 million to fight Margarito some time back. Turned it down. Mayweather has scoffed at the idea of fighting Mosley. When asked about fighting Cotto, Mayweather refused to entertain the notion.

"This isn't Cotto's thing," Mayweather said, meaning he was on the call to talk about Hatton.

Arum has said that Mayweather will never fight Cotto because it's too dangerous of a fight for Mayweather.

Steward intimated that Mayweather needs to fight Cotto, as well as the others, if he wants to truly be boxing's pound-for-pound king. Steward noted that the welterweight division is the most talented in the sport today.

"To me, the guy that's out there who nobody may want to look at, I look at Miguel Cotto," said Steward, who trains one of the other welterweight champions, Kermit Cintron, but did not bring up his name. "Here is a guy who fought the best that he could at 140 (junior welterweight). And he whipped everybody. He's been knocked down, always finds a way to come back and win fights.

"Then moving up to 147 and fighting the best up here. Never dodges anyone."

Never runs from an opponent, either. To Steward, that's all Mayweather does; run from the best and avoid the best.

"You don't want to fight any of these guys and still you want to be considered the top welterweight when you won't even fight welterweights?" Steward said. "I just don't see it. I mean, you got people like Cotto who is out here fighting his (butt) off with the best.

"Great fighters like (Muhammad) Ali, he wouldn't have said, `Well, I don't want to fight this guy because he doesn't mean anything.' He fought everybody, went all over the world, fought all the best fighters in their countries. (Sugar Ray) Robinson did the same thing. Joe Louis. Those were great pound-for-pound fighters. I've never known a great fighter who picked and chose his fights."
Well friggin said........Steward is right on target here. No way does Floyd take a real risk with Cotto, Margarito, Mosely, or Williams. Hell, he wouldn't of taken Hatton but for the fact that the Floyd camp underrated him. Steward is dead on.

Maybe Manny is smarter then I have been giving him credit for. I agree with pretty much everything he said. And deep down, Floyd knows this is why he wont be remembered.

I agree with Manny,Floyd is suppose to win fights with a smaller guy that blows up in weight,to fight in a higher weight class, just like JT was suppose to win over Spinks, and Ouma.A win over Cotto,or Williams would make him a concrete legend,no questions asked.

There are 2 fighters that both Mayweather and Cotto fought and thats Zab Judah and Demarcus Corley. If you compare the two performances I'd say Mayweather did the best, because when he fought Judah he was never on ***** street. Demarcus Corley nailed him once as he did Cotto and I think Mayweatherhandled it better....

As far as Mosley I have atleast two fights where Mayweather was at 135 and after the fight he said he'd like to fight the best from 154 on down and he named Oscar De La Hoya and Sugar Shane Mosley.

Steward is a Trainer who is training a fighter in the same division as Mayweather so anything he says I take it as a bargain to get Cintron the fight.....Now Why Does Mayweather need to fighgt Cintron? Cintron needs to avenge his loss which Mayweather has none of.....Paul Williams is another fight Mayweather doesn't need, although I will say if he was to meet Williams, he would lose and possibly be knocked out.

Cotto needs the Mayweather fight more than Maywether needs the Cotto fight....both have impressive records, if Cotto wants to fight Mayweather....he needs to fight Oscar De La Hoya.

WHo cares about Cintron or Margarito?

Nobody wants it with Williams, which is funny.

what has race got to do with anything...stop simplifying his views

he basically said Mayweather isn`t on the same level as Ali and Robinson because he doesn`t fight all over the world and chooses his fights.

Mayweather fights great, but he aint a great fighter.
