The girlfriend of boxer Ricky Hatton has quit her teaching job to be at his world title fight in Las Vegas.
Business lecturer Jennifer Dooley, 26, broke the news to her students at Manchester College of Art and Technology in a farewell letter.
It is understood she resigned in a dispute over taking time off to watch Hatton take on Floyd Mayweather.
College principal Peter Taverner said her desire to support her boyfriend at Sunday's fight was "understandable."
In the letter, which was read out to students on Monday, Ms Dooley wrote: "I'm really sorry that I am not there to see you today.
"You have been a pleasure to teach since September and I have really enjoyed the lessons with you and being your teacher.
"I will send you all an autograph into college when I get back from Las Vegas."
Mr Taverner said the college was now backing Hatton to triumph over Mayweather.
He said: "Jennifer is a great member of staff and an excellent teacher, we understand that she wants to support Ricky.
"We wish them every success and hope Ricky brings the title back."
