Is Boxing running out of U.S. stars?

It kind of feels like the boxers considered to be "stars" in America are slowly fading out. De La Hoya is certainly in the twilight of his career. Mosley is only going to be around for another year or less. Hopkings is at the point where most people are starting to care less about him. Tarver, well, Tarver's anticipated comeback was a disappointment. Floyd IS a star but doesn't really have that mainstream appeal to stay in the limelight (waits for stans to invade this thread like iraq).

I know we got the up and comers but will they really be able to carry the weight? Would Pavlik or Cotto (i know he's PR)?

Yeah true if Floyd retires soon, and Hopkins is on his way out there will be no one, Pavlik is on the road, and Cotto needs a big fight against Hatton or DLH.

You need to beat a Superstar to become one, which is why i think its important for PAVLIK to secure a big fight with a superstar, like Wright or Hopkins, cause if he wins he could be HUGE in the US. the next DLH

There's obviously guys like Jermain Taylor and Vernon Forrest who will always be somewhat popular, and will probably get bigger before they retire.

Plus, There are so many guys out there that have the potential to, or already have, crossover appeal. Cotto is already huge in NY. Haye could be big in the US. Pacquiao is big here in the US. Guys like Barrera and Marquez were and are big in the US.

So until a few US stars emerge, there's plenty to hold us over here in the US

Paul Williams..best crowd pleasing style at WW.

        Andre Berto

        Kelly Pavlik

        Juan Diaz

        Jermain Taylor

        Mayweather Jr.

        Chad Dawson

I think the US is just fine.

There's always a new crop coming up from amateurs/olympics. Don't worry fellas, the U.S. will always have good boxers.

YES, the American dominance is over, boxing is an international sport now. Kelly Pavlik is gonna be the biggest American star, he is the most exciting fighter and p4p one of the hardest punchers in boxing.

Yet I can easily picture someone like Hopkins, Winky or Joe cal boxing his ears off.

Pavlik would KO/TKO Ol'Popkins and Winky, I don't think he could beat Calzaghe though, I would take Calzaghe by UD.

i would pick Pavlik over all 3 of them... id make Joe the favorite, but he'd be the only favorite.

And to be honest, Pavlik-Wright is a one-sided fight. Wright wouldnt be able to keep up. Its possible he might get stopped as well.

from a marketing point of view, Juan Diaz would be a tough sell to the american public. he's too much of a mexican american. it would be hard for non hispanics to follow him follow him for other than his fighting style and to be a super star in ANY sport, you need to have more reasons for people to love you than just your talent.
