Just listened to Floyd's interview with Jim Rome on Rome's radio show. For once I thought Floyd might have a humble, sensible outing during an interview, because he made some good points and didn't go out of his way to bash on Hatton. When asked about Hatton's record he said, "He's won all his fights, yea, and I take nothing away from him, but records ain't nothin' but a number. You have to look at who he's beat in his 43 wins. Who has he beat that was at the top of their game?"
Ok, fair point to make. Then when Rome asked him, "You know Hatton sometimes walks around at 30 pounds over his fighting weight, what do you think about that? Do you think its good to do that?" Floyd threw it all out the window and made the dip**** comment of, "Me personally, I don't think thats good, thats not what a role model does,..." At this point I rolled my eyes and sighed. First of all, walking around over fight-weight has nothing to do with being a role model. Second, if anyone in sports has no right to talk about role models, its Floyd Mayweather Jr. Ethnic slurs, gay jokes, disrespect to fans, and personal overhype aren't trademarks of a role model either.
