Where the **** is the HATTON-MAYWEATHER HYPE???

Well, its been pretty massive over here in the UK.
I'm not surprised about the US, Hatton isn't well known by fans over there. De La Hoya and Mayweather are.Comment

1) It's football season.
2) It's college football season.
That takes up most of the sports attention as is.
3) Neither Mayweather nor Hatton have crossed over to the extent of De La Hoya.
4) People who didn't know better and thought De La Hoya-Mayweather had potential remember how disappointed they felt.
5) You haven't been spamming the message boards enough.
3) Mayweather certainly has
4) Its true, but millions are still gonna buy
5)Why do people care about that stuff. its so annoyingComment

3) Really? Could Mayweather sell more than 50,000 tickets to fight someone on the level of Patrick Charpentier?
4) Yes, and that's because boxing fans are like Pavlov's dogs. Ring a bell, and they'll salivate at the rare opportunity for their hunger to be sated.
5) Because I said so.Comment

1+2) Casual boxing fans are going to be distracted by other spectator sports. Sportscenter isn't apt to give as much attention.

3)DLH did about 35,000, and Mayweather will sellout any stadium he steps into at this point, because he's got fans that want him to win, and plenty more who salivate at the chance of seeing him lose.
4) Thats not true at all. Fans are constantly complaining about PPV's and ****ty cards. Thats why this exceptional event will sell over 1 million buys, where as most ppvs do around 300,000Comment

That's not what I was going for, and for my first post on a topic (Mayweather as a draw), you should neither assume you know my perspective nor tell me to get over something.
That's neither here nor there. Back on topic:
I'm not arguing Mayweather's ability to draw. I'm arguing that Mayweather hasn't reached the crossover level that De La Hoya once had, citing what De La Hoya was able to do in bringing over 50,000 to a stadium to fight a gimme. That's not a knock on Mayweather. That's just recognizing that De La Hoya in the nineties had a tremendous Q-rating.Comment

1+2) True

4) Yes, but that's akin to comparing the regular WWE pay-per-views to Wrestlemania. People will drop their money for the big dogs, but it's because they've become accustomed to paying for stuff that they might not have in the past. Compare some of the great Don King pay-per-views to the offerings that are put out now, including the relatively poor undercard to PBF-Hatton. It is why people will even drop the additional 10 dollars for the De La Hoya fight and the additional 5 (plus the usual 50) for this one. We've become accustomed to ordering it because that's what we need/have to do.Comment
