Hopkins v Toney at 160 who wins

Toney got beat by much lesser boxers than the guys Hopkins got beat by(other than in his debut), and didn't show as good all around skills in ANY of his fights. Nowhere near the ability? That is downright ******. A green Hopkins had a good fight with RJJ, a prime Toney got schooled and made to look like an amateur. Toney was never quite on Hop's level if you ask me. And yeah, Tiberi beat Toney and was robbed, unlike Griffin, who beat him outright. And Thadzi LOL!

don't make me laugh. Hopkins was clearly out pointed by Roy and lost every round IMO. Toney was weight drained and had to be hooked up to Iv's before the fight with Roy. i would have actually picked Toney to beat Roy if he came in right. and Toney was never on Hopkins level? thats ******ed. you need to do research and look back at Toney's fights. he caught every title from middleweight up. he had a middleweight, supermiddleweight, lightheavyweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight title. do you really think Hopkins could do that? please, Hopkins is no where near the level of Toney. Toney is only 5'9 and went that far in weight, thats how great he is. he is an all time great. and if you fought every style out there and didn't care who you fight, of course there would be styles that would give you trouble (like Tiberi). im not hyping Toney up, im just stating the facts.

At 160? Hard pick. I would probably go with Hop to win at 160 and I would definitely pick Toney to win at 168. At 160 he struggled with his aggression from too much weight drain and was often struggling to fight any more than two minutes of each round. He had some hard fights against some very good fighters and although he beat them, some were too close for comfort. At 168 he could fight every minute of every round. Was a beast at 168 and was one of the greatest fighters I've seen before the comfort of easy living and money took it's toll.

Hopkins at 160 was much more aggressive than the Hopkins of modern times we've come to know. He would pressure Toney all fight. Both were absolute defensive masters and counter punchers. I think Hopkins was more aggressive and while Toney might have been slicker defensively, his aggressiveness or lack thereof, would play against him at this weight against as good a fighter as Hopkins.

A difficult fight to pick. Both were truly great, smart fighters and when in form would've been a handful for anyone in history. The thing that separates it for me though is simply the lack of fight in Toney at that particular weight. They were both rather similar fighters. Defensive counter punching masters who could fight brilliantly on both the inside and outside. I think Toneys shoulder roll and counter punch could be a bit more devastating than Hopkins offensive tools. Still, a great fantasy fight to think about and one to dream over the possibilities and outcomes of for many an hour.

I always take issue with the myth that Toney was being thoroughly out-boxed and outclassed against Nunn before landing one spectacular left hook to finish him. It was anything but a one sided fight and was very close and anyones fight going into the last rounds.

Toney had won, off the top of my head, maybe round one and two then lost most of the middle rounds through inactivity. He came back around the seventh round and, from memory, I had him winning the last three or four rounds and hurting Nunn solidly in the last three with strong right hand counters off the shoulder roll.

I think people that adhere to the myth of Toney losing every round have either not watched the fight at all, haven't watched it in many years and become influenced by other people saying that or simply can't see the fight for what it was.

Goosen, who commentated the fight had it spot on throughout. Toney was being out-boxed in the middle rounds but largely due to inactivity. Every time he exchanged solidly he would often get the better punches in. Going into the eleventh, I knew Toney was coming on very strong and would probably win. He had hurt Nunn each round from three previously and was getting stronger and more active. Nunn was getting hit frequently with solid punches and wasn't evading them with his earlier defensive skills.

People need to watch that fight again with fresh eyes and mind. It was a classic bout and close throughout despite the terrible judge scorecards. I think my scorecard had Nunn up by a couple of rounds going into the famous eleventh with Toney winning the last three I think. Though I'd need to check that to be positive.

Toney beats hopkins everytime because hes more skilled then hopkins its way to obviously you would have to be a big big bhop fan to say he would win cause i seriously doubt it.

He has an almost undentable chin, and if/when you do dent it he fights just as well or better hurt, in his prime he was quick, a terrific combination and counter puncher, and in addition to his undentable chin, he's almost impossible to hit cleanly anyway.

I think on his best night Tony could have beaten Roy or given him a run for his money, he'd beat Hopkins easily...
