Pep: Mayweather is a special fighter

Tony Pep: Hatton must knock Mayweather out

By Gareth A Davies, boxing correspondent

    Last Updated: 2:13am GMT 03/12/2007

Ricky Hatton must knock out, or stop Floyd Mayweather if he is to claim the WBC welterweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday night according to Canadian Tony Pep, who has fought both the American and the Briton. Pep fears that Hatton may cut against Mayweather, and says the American is "that extra little bit special".

Mexican Jose Luis Castillo is the only other boxer to share a contest with both undefeated fighters. Pep took Mayweather the distance in a 10-round contest in 1998, and in 1991, bloodied Hatton's face before being stopped in the fourth round at Wembley Arena. Pep is adamant that Mayweather will win on points if the fight goes 12 rounds.

Pep said yesterday: "Hatton has to stick to Mayweather like glue. Even then I don't think he can put on enough pressure to win on points. Ricky's a tough fighter who can hurt you to the body. But in Mayweather you've got an an all-time great. He's seen off those he's fought in style."

Pep has also been a sparring partner for Mayweather since then, and insists his ability to adapt is eerie. "When I was asked to spar I thought, right, now's the time to get him. Every day I turned up with a plan to unsettle him. It only took him a few seconds to adapt to whatever I threw at him. He's a special fighter."

Gatti will be able to take Mayweather’s pot-shots and will also have the power to hurt Mayweather. When you have a combination like that, it usually spells disaster for the fighter that can get hurt. Mayweather is not going to be able to land anything that will hurt Gatti enough to make him respect him. Gatti is going to take the risk of eating a few punches so that he can set up his own big shots, which will hurt Floyd and stop him.

This is a very winnable fight for both fighters, it depends on who gets the upper edge first. It's Gatti’s time to shine, therefore Gatti will beat Floyd Mayweather via a 10th round TKO. Mayweather has all the talent in the world, but it won't be enough this Saturday. Either way, fans have waited a long time and no matter what happens, this is going to be a hell of a fight. A hell of a fight!

            ABOUT THE GATTI FIGHT....LMAO.

Yeah and some of these guys say it because thats what they think ,,, everybody thats says Floyd will be two much has a axe to grind against Ricky according to you guys , even the guys in the media picking Hatton like Duran Calzaghe Eubanks , none are confident they are only saying he has a good chance if he does this and that ,, like Cal my head says Floyd , none are confident in a Hatton win they are only being hopeful not predictive .

This doesn't seem good for Hatton, both Castillo and Pep favor Floyd.

They said the same thing about Hatton before the Tszyu fight. The higher the pedestal that harder the fall. Mayweather is not on a pedestal, he's on a ladder made of balsa wood. It will break from the weight of it's own accord...it's just a matter of time.

Yep every real underdog is written off the same way , and yep sometimes they get up and knock of the red hot fav ,, and yep every underdog I ever heard speak tells the same story of what he is gunna do , 99% of them do fail thats a fact , the only difference here is this under dog had 24/7 to sell the quest .

Hatton is a tough fighter and Floyd has to be special to win this fight because the mindset that Rickys in is going to make him extremely hard to beat , Floyd has to be a great fighter to win .
