WBO super middleweight Joe Calzaghe retained his 168lb title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Kabary Salem Friday night in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was a sloppy fight with the unothodox Salem giving Calzaghe one of his toughest defenses. Calzaghe was cut by an unintentional head clash in round two and Salem dropped him in round four. However, the unbeaten champion was able to get back into the fight, eventually dropping Salem in the twelfth. Scores were 117-109, 118-107 and 116-109 for Calzaghe who goes to 38-0 with the win....

Terrible fight!
Calzaghe got a bit to worked up with Salems head work and general rough tactics and start dropping hand and throwing wild combo's!! The idiot got caught on the attack by a salem counter which dropped the champ. Calzaghe got up and returned the knock down to Salem in the 11th, Calzaghe retained by an landslide points win.
If Calzaghe didnt have such great physical advantages over his opponents he'd struggle because his tough guy, hands down style leaves him very open. His Skills were not on show tonight as he decided to rough it with Salem. -
From what I've seen of Joe lately, I think it would be wise for him to duck that Lacy fight and continue fighting the guys he usully does.Comment
