Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. of Culican, Mexico will take on his most dangerous, fierce opponent in hard-hitting, hometown hero Ray Sanchez III on Top Rank's 'Latin Fury' PPV championship card at the Tingley Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Chavez Jr., 21, is one of the most popular young fighters in the world. Chavez Jr., 33-0-1, is the son of the legend, El Gran Campeon Mexicano - Julio Cesar Chavez, a four-time world champion.
However, Chavez Jr. faces a fierce rival in Sanchez who was born in the South Valley of Albuquerque and has vowed "not to lose in my hometown.
"Chavez sure made a mistake coming to Albuquerque," Sanchez said.
The big fight card is loaded with stars including two-time world champion Jorge Arce of Los Mochis, Mexico and world champion Ivan 'Iron Boy' Calderon of Puerto Rico. Arce is scheduled to box 12 rounds. Calderon will defend his title. Also appearing is future star Mike Alvarado, a rugged welterweight from Denver.
Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, made the announcement.
"We shall soon see what Chavez Jr. is all about. I know Ray Sanchez is going to give it everything he has in this matchup," Arum said.
Tickets are $150, $100, $50, $30 and will be available on Ticketmaster.com and at the box office of Tingley Coliseum. 'Latin Fury,' featuring Chavez Jr. and Sanchez, is promoted by Top Rank and Prime Time Promotions and will be available on Pay Per View at a suggest retail of $34.95. -
