I heard he was robbed in one of the Robinson fights, He had one hell of a chin from what I know and he was involved in throwing (rigging) a couple fights..
Since some of them were riggid it puts other into question so its very hard to say I would say.

the ring had him in the top 10 middleweights ever.

he was a strong fighter who was supposed to be clever on the inside with rolling with shots and using his shoulders, but the movie raging bull and some espn classic fights of him late in his career, along with the 6th sugar ray fight, makes people think he had no defense.

despite his physical strength, he was not a very big puncher.

      he had "womanly" hands.

he threw the billy fox fight.

ray robinson supposedly was told by frankie carbo to throw a fight with lamotta, lamotta would throw the next one, and the last one would be on the level.

        ray refused.

Lamotta was offered several of fights to throw and refused them all, which he never gets credit for.

All anyone talks about is the Billy Fox fight, which in retrospect, was the only option Lamotta had. He wasnt gonna get a shot at the title unless he threw that fight. He threw it, got his shot, and won the title.

Anyway, skills wise, Lamotta wasnt a very good fighter. But he was INCREDIBLY strong and had an UNBREAKABLE will and a GRANITE chin. He could walk through insurmountable amounts of punishment to win fights, somtimes in the last rounds of the fight.

Yes he wasnt a big puncher at all. He would wear guys down and win fights on points in the later rounds.

His knockout record was abysmal. something like 40 KO's in 80 fights, which is horrible for someone who fights like he did

Also, because he fought like he did, im SHOCKED that he is still alive and well today

Jake lamotta never got knocked down in his whole career of 100+ fights that says about his chin and his defense only a idiot would say he had no defense.
He was a accumlations type of ko fighter and he fought in different divisions sometimes i even fought in light heavyweight division at one time and he was knocking some guys out.
Again its like the mike tyson story what if? cause he had alot going on in his personal life and was involved with the mob at times so who knows how gd he would of become.

LaMotta had 30 kos in 100+ fights, 83 wins I think.

back then, fighters usually had lower ko percentages than today, barring the hw division in which champs have always had high ko percentages.

                    Common misconception.

Lamotta was never Knocked Down against SUGAR RAY ROBINSON, but was in fact down in his career.

Danny Nardico knocked him down with a big right hand and forced Lamotta to quit on his stool before the 8th. He essentially ended Lamottas career although he did make a brief comeback 2 years later.

But all that was in the 50's, and Lamotta wasnt what he once was. It says nothing about his chin or his will, he was washed up at that point
