• Golden Boy Lays Groundwork For Joan Guzman-Edwin Valero Unification Battle

******************.Com EXCLUSIVE REPORT

11/30/2007

******************.com has been informed that Golden Boy Promotions officials are laying the ground work for a possible 130-pound world title unification bout between two undefeated champions, Edwin Valero of Venezuela and Joan Guzman of the Dominican Republic.
This stunning news comes on the heels of Golden Boy's announcement that it will co-promote a Manny Pacquaio-Juan Manuel Marquez WBC 130-pound title bout at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on March 15. Pacman-Marquez, the rematch between the Pinoy idol and the Mexican, will be the top of an HBO PPV show to be run in conjunction with Bob Arum's Top Rank.
Valero is fighting on a PPV show from Cancun, Mexico, on Dec. 15 which will be co-promoted by Teiken Promotions of Japan and DiBella Entertainment.
The winner of Guzman-Valero is the natural next foe for the Pacman-Marquez survivor.
"Golden Boy believes it can make Guzman, who they co-promote with Sycuan, against Valero. Oscar de la Hoya is very friendly with Akihiko Honda and the Teiken team. It may not be possible to stage this event in America due to Valero's being denied a New York license several years ago. Valero had a brain injury from a motorcycle accident in his native country," the source which did not want to be identified told ******************.com.
"Golden Boy is working with serveral concepts on possibly getting Edwin licensed in the U.S.," the source said. "If they can't maybe they will take this blockbuster fight to Mexico, to Venezuela or to the Dominican Republic."
The informed source believes that Valero will easily get licensed almost anywhere outside America.

But where is the fight going to take place though? I really want to see Valero in the states or here in England against a decent opponent...Guzman is a good one though.

no way chavez lets HBO cameras run in venezuela for a live cast. well, maybe - the guy has a sports program in valero's name, valero however doesn't take too kind to chavez. valero is such a rogue, gotta love it.

DR?

I think Mexico is the best choice - put in a crazy mexican heavy undercard and you can pack any one of those 100 thou seat stadiums.

awesome fight, great fight.

Are you sure the program is named after Edwin Valero and not General Antonio Valero de Bernabe? He's a Puerto Rican who fought with Bolivar to liberate Venezuela from Spain and is considered a national hero in Venezuela.

Anywho, this fight would be money. Maybe they could make the fight in the DR to ensure maximum capacity if they can't get Venezuela.

Part of me says Valero will catch Guzman then the other half thinks Guzman can box his socks off.

Im torn..I cant pick this one yet.

Valero going to lose, he should prepare himself a little better before going up against someone so difficult, maybe Raheem who knows but I don't think he should just jump at Guzman like that, he's better than anyone valero every beat, all KO's but against who?? he reminds me of this 1 guy who was on ShoBox, the guy was like 26-0 26 KO's and he fought some dude, I don't remember his record but as for what I can remember dude was a step up to homeboy with the record (SEE why I like BoxRec!), anyways they fight and the guy who was 26-0 got KO'ed like a bag or bricks, not even I expected that and y'all know how I feel about padded records, I guess thats why I like Miguel so much but anyways the point is the guy with the similar record as Valero had similar nobodies, he got beat by the better guy with at the very least (can't knock his skills if I can't name him) a spit worth of skills..

where my ShoBox heads at? y'all need to know who I'm talking about, Steve Farhood almost dropped his tupee when he saw this ****, it was a WHILE ago but if y'all think ya know who it was then holla on it, I'm actually curious.. getting to the point I say this will be a BIG win on Valero if he can win which I'll be honest, I'll give him the punchers chance but other than that he's just throwing away his 0, I respect his heart though for even stepping up like this so soon, reminds me of Vargas and who knows Vargas actually beat Winky before fighting Tito.. Guzman by UD.. 100
