Brendon Smith, trainer and manager of Michael Katsidis, says the proposed bout between his fighter and WBO/WBA/WBC lightweight champ Juan Diaz is slated to headline an HBO televised card on January 26. Oscar De La Hoya, on behalf of his company Golden Boy Promotions, placed the winning purse bid of $1.5 million to gain the promotional rights to the fight. Diaz will receive 80% of the purse split. yeah i really dont like that purse split.... i realise juan is the man at lightweight but 80%!!!! kinda harsh, especially as michael is a very live opponent. that being said i expect juan to overwhelm him and force a mid/late round stoppageComment

This fight is gonna be great!
I don't see anything wrong with the purse split either...sure, it seems a little unfair, but Katsidis is still getting $300K for his first shot at the champ. That's more than a lot of world titleholders make per fight!!! And $1.2 mil for Juan...the guys been fighting everyone they put in front of him and winning...so let the man get paid! Maybe now he'll have enough to actually move out of mom and dad's and get his own place!

this is the type of fight we need for boxing. these are two true warriors. this will be a better fight than mayweather-hatton because diaz and katsidis will give the fans real excitement and a knockout.Comment

crazy purse split but what an amazing fight! Can't wait to see this one. I wanna say I'll root for Diaz but Katsidis is a dangerous opponentComment

I agree.
We need more fights like these to raise the interest of the average fan into boxing.
That said the Hatton-Floyd clash could be a stinker.Comment
