It's a joke, and would be a messy, horrible infight with lots of grabbing (and cuffing on Calzaghe's part)

Calzaghe is clearly not the fighter who fought Brewer, Mitchell and Lacy and Hopkins is clearly not the fighter who fought Trinidad and Joppy, anymore

But with your analogy on age, there both to green (young) Froch is a fringe contender yet to prove himself worthy.. Dawson has been criticized for his comp and suspect chin, while they would both prove dangerous Calzaghe is the best at SMW, Hopkins at LHW period! Plus the fact there history as champs is similar and well Hopkins was the MW champ Calzaghe was the SMW champ and now Hopkins is bigger makes it intresting!
