Ike was a monster, would have been world champ for a while for sure, and Tua was a beast, great fight.

Tua's actually trying to make a comeback, and he's only 34. I like his chances.

I remember this fight, I was there ringside. Guess how much the ringside tickets cost? I remember it being around 50-60 bucks tops no more no less!! Even back in '97 ringside tickets for that level of a boxing event generally cost of upwards to $100.

Going to that fight I already knew who Tua was, but never heard of "The President". I went with my best friend who is a huge fan of boxing as well, mentioned to not be surprise if Tua loses. The fight was televised under HBO B.A.D.

On the undercard, it was local guy Willie Jorrin(fought Israel Vasquez and Oscar Larios), Jose Luis Lopez(the one who fought Quartey to a Draw), and guess who else was on the undercard?? The recently retired Fernando "El Feroz" Vargas.

Zab Judah was in the crowd cheering on his stablemates. Lou Duva was working Vargas's corner.

I was kinda bummed, because I was looking forward to seeing RJJ or George Foreman doing the commentating w/ Merchant and Lampley but neither were there, just Lamps and Merchant . My friend actually went up to Jim Lampley and asked where Roy or George was and I think they said one was sick and the other had prior engagements.

Anyhow, from what I remember I saw the Tua - Ibeabuchi fight to be really close. I had Ike winning by a slim margin. Tua landed the harder punches and was backin' up Ike, but Ike just kept up the workrate.

Man, let me tell ya somethin' about Tua's punches, It's something else. Most punches usually sound like a slapping sound or a thuddin' sound. Not Tua's, it sounded like a bat hitting plastic. If you guys are familiar with how a Muay Thai roundhouse sounds when it connects, that's exactly how it sounds.

Yeah both were great punchers and had great chins. I couldn’t imagine many people being able to slug it out with Ike or Tua. Ike vs tyson what a fight that would have been or tua vs tyson.
