    Hatton wants stolen belt returned

    Champion's boxing belt is stolen

Teddy Maguire won the belt in 1934

A historic belt awarded to a lightweight boxing champion more than 70 years ago has been stolen from a property in Cheshire.
The belt, which dates back to 1934 and has sentimental value, was awarded to Teddy Maguire after a tournament at Blackpool Tower.

Detectives believe thieves may try to sell it to unsuspecting fans.

Manchester-based international boxing champion Ricky Hatton has urged boxing fans to help police track it down.

Mr Hatton, who is currently in Las Vegas training for his welterweight title fight on 8 December, said: "It takes a lot of blood sweat and tears to win a belt.

"I would be devastated if somebody was to steal one of my belts and if anybody has any information as to the whereabouts of this belt I would ask them to contact their local police station."

The belt has a centrepiece featuring two boxers raising their gloves, which is surrounded by intricate metal work and chains.

It was designed by Lancashire ***eller Eli Percival.

Police said it was stolen from Mr Maguire's son's house in Wilmslow on 3 October.

A spokesman for Cheshire Constabulary said: "The belt holds great sentimental value.

"The owner is desperate to be reunited with it and is understood to be willing to offer a reward for its safe return."
