Paul Williams Hopes Kermit Cintron Steps Up

WBO welterweight champ Paul "The Punisher" Williams (33-0, 24KOs) is hoping that his IBF counterpart, Kermit Cintron, steps up to the plate as promised to unify their titles on Feb. 2. Talks for the bout have been ongoing, but Williams' tells the Aiken Standard that he is not sold until the contract is signed. Williams feel that after beating Antonio Margarito, one of the most feared welterweights in the division, none of the other champions want to fight him. [details]

I am dying to see this fight, I hope Kermit steps up too because I think he can do it, I think Kermit can beat Paul if he comes in at his best form, it CAN be done, it's been a LONG time since I have seen someone listen to their Trainer so well, Kermit listens to Emmanuel Steward's every instruction, at the end of round 1 he listened when Manny told him to fall back and let Jesse tire out, in one of the later rounds he said start clinching him right away and thats EXACTLY what he did, the fight turned out the way his Trainer told him it would so he trusts 100% in Manny, I think Steward has the ring knowledge on how to penetrate William's offense/defense and if Kermit listens to him as good as he has been then I see a W for Kermit.. see I never felt like his loss against Margarito was legit, not because of Tony because Tony did what he came to do, kudos, but Kermit short changed himself, he more or less gave up in a competitive fight that could have still been won, he just didn't step up and it cost him his 0 but look closely dogz THATS his only loss and it came to Margarito AND it was more of a inner loss in Kermit, I just feel Kermit could have beaten Tony under the right circumstances and Tony didn't go up against a full proof Kermit, his heart wasn't in the fight just re-watch it and see for yourself..

I think Kermit beats Williams just as long as he brings his A game, Cintron is young, has long ass reach, a good jab, a great right and can **** and Williams is the type to use his offense AS his defense, he punches so much that it eventually becomes his defense, once he finds someone who can neutralize that whether with a punch we have yet to see Williams be vulnerable to or just a good jab or good movement or whatever the case, once we see him slow down his output and get caught inside it might be good night Paul a la Vernon Forrest, Paul is TOO willing to fight on the inside and give away his physical advantages, add that to the fact that his arms really aren't that long for his height and the fact that his offense IS his defense I think Kermit would be the dude to do it, he's precise, he has speed, power, agility, skills and overall just a BIG chance to win this fight.. I went on record recently to say I might have to re-analyze this match up, but after reconsideration I still feel Cintron will do it ESPECIALLY after Feliciano because he proved that even in the later rounds he's a BOMB, even when in pain he's a BOMB and he's ready to blow up.. Kermit got this one IMO. 100

i think Kermit will get beat by williams, look at kermit last fight the guy had an iron chin and would keep coming in and it look as if kermit was getting frustrated with this. Imagine williams, i know he has a good chin (it was tested in the margarito fight) and volume punches like no other. Kermit will again get frustrated and have in the back of his mind, damn williams beat Marg and Marg beat me some i'm done. Just echoing the previous poster of Kermit not being ready.

why not? looking back at it, going back and listening to his trainers instructions between rounds, kermit did exactly what he was told to do to win a fight with a busted up right hand. had he not hurt his hand, fight would have been over within 4. not saying he would have KO'd him, cuz feliciano just didnt want to go down, but he would have gotten the stoppage earlier. Manny steward instructed cintron to let him inside, give rounds away, to tire feliciano out, then around round 8, he said to start working outside and KO him. Cintron did all of those things and got the KO.

a hand problem is worrisome. they can take a long time to heal. you can workout and stay in shape but sparring and hitting the bag is limited.
cintrons giving up 2-3 inch in heighth and 8 inch in reach.
looks like its an inside fight for cintron and he should stay away from realstate at the end of williams punches.

cintron prooved he's good on the inside and feel he and manny will find a way to beat pencil neck williams.
