If it's about building up reactions why is Floyd doing a memorized pad routine over and over without even looking at the trainer?
It still aids in your reaction time. It's called "sharpening your tools" it also has to do with his muscle memory.

It's like Joe Calzaghe hardly spars for fights, but that's because of his tremendous amount of experience. Floyd can do this pad routine, but he isn't learning anything. He's working on his endurance if anything.

Hatton's pad routine is more about working his footwork.
Floyd has been doing that his whole career so there is not much more he can learn about reflexis. the point is, he has one of if not the best defence in the sport. he most likely will not be damaged when he is done with boxing. Hatton will be damged because his style is to take punches. so i don't get your point? if he does not get hit in the ring and the training pays off, whats the problem?

Reaction mate, You can never train yourself enough..Why does hatton hit the bodybag on Billy graham? Whether he looked at his trainer or not shouldnt come into it...whether he does the same routine all over again for 20 years should come into it..Thats why boxers train to perfect the craft.
He isn't working reactions though, he's working endurance and muscular memory. It obviously is working for him, hence I said I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I just want to make it clear that this style of padwork will not work for anyone else really, and I seriously doubt that Floyd learned to box by memorizing routines.

Maybe Jermain Taylor and Tony Booth, not sure about anyone else.

Like you said everyone has a way or style of training so why stop if you're winning through that routine? Kid that watch boxing would follow who ever influence them and probably copy there style.
