    Award hat-trick for Hatton

Ricky Hatton pledged to become the world's best fighter yesterday after completing a record breaking hat-trick by winning British boxing's top award for the third time.

Hatton, winner in 2003 and 2005, was named Boxer of the Year at the British Boxing Board of Control awards.

He claimed it is just the incentive he needs to inspire him to go on and beat Floyd Mayweather Jnr in their Las Vegas showdown on December 8.

"It's been a fantastic year for me - I had my best win knocking out Jose Luis Castillo but I still believe the best is yet to come on December 8," said Hatton. The 29-year-old Hitman, closing in on the biggest fight of his life, missed the London awards bash because of his training schedule.

But he said: "I'm looking forward to Las Vegas and I'm very confident I'll be bringing another world title back to Britain.

"I'm determined the world's best pound-for-pound fighter will be coming back here."

Hatton pipped fellow world champions Joe Calzaghe and David Haye, whose victories over Mikkel Kessler and Jean-Marc Mormeck came after the closing date for this year's awards, and WBO cruiserweight holder Enzo Maccarinelli.

That was funny ....I couldnt stop laughing, seriously though how did Hatton win the award again? Did he achieve more than any british boxer this yeah? No..I think David Haye deserves it better.

Floyd isnt even P4P#1 right now, let alone when Hatton beats him.

Im going to apply your own logic to this one:
Did David Haye achieve more than any british boxer this year? NO.

In all seriousness though, they have a cut off date, which both Calzaghe and Haye missed. It should be until the end of 2007 and the winner named early 2008, but it isnt, thats just the way it is.
