Why does Hatton clinch so much?

I want to know why Hatton clinches and grabs so much in his fights?

He did it so much against Kostya its not funny.
He was so scared of KT's right hand, he cheated and didn't box.
If he grabs Floyd, its all over red rover for Floyd.
It will depend on how Floyd will ''unclinch'' himself.

Bare in mind Hatton has a 20-inch reach with elbow problems, and if he doesn't hold occasionally he's going to be punched... clinching hasn't been banned as far as I know.

Against an attacking fighter or a static fighter, he never clinches. He uses his footwork and balance. But when he's trying to get close to a fighter backing off, so he can set his feet right, it's either hold for a few seconds or get punched. Inside fighting is an art in itself, and Hatton is a master at it. In the second half of the Urango fight, he was setting out to clinch because he had a head cold and chest infection.

Against Castillo it was because Ricky felt Castillo's strength in the first 10 seconds and felt he was so much stronger than Castillo, so he made the decision (after 10 seconds!) to go forward and strength him out and go for the early win instead of the planned long route/boxing masterclass that was the plan beforehand

          The decision obviously proved right...

That's some good copy and paste right there. Not to mention good bull**** too.

Like I said earlier, the first clinch that Hatton made was at 2:54 where Castillo only threw a left that didn't even land.

He likes to fight inside and inside fighting = clinches...
I'd consider shoulder to shoulder and trading shots is moreso infighting. Though Hatton infights, but just uses clinching as his defense because he has ****ty defense. I would have questioned his chin too, but it seems pretty solid since he ate those rights from Tszyu up.

And Hatton covers it up by making it look like his opponent was the one clinching.

Not really. You can tell it's him most of the time.

I reckon clinching should be banned from boxing.
If you clinch, you should have a point deducted from you.
Ruiz is another classic example of it vs hasim rahman, any1 who has seen this fight , I would say is the most boring fight in the history of boxing.
jab clinch, jab clinch. jab clinch... terrible fight.

I agree that this is Ricky's biggest downfall. I think it has grown into a habit, that he just can not break.
