Does HBO not acknowledge the ring?

Is it just a case of not wanting to advertise a commercial product, or are there 'political' reasons?

They never mention if a ring championship belt is at stake, and apparently Kellerman used to only go by ring ratings on his radio show, but i've never heard him mention it on his hbo coverage.

Although i do try and block out everything he says,

    at all times.

At the end of my copy of Mayweather-Gatti, Jim Lampley apologizes for "not properly establishing that last week's fight between Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson was for The Ring Championship Belt."

I don't think they have any problem mentioning The Ring, but they don't name-drop it a lot, you are right.

They may not mention it all the time but its the only title they mention. They never mention the decrepit organizations like Showtime does so they are good by me

The have been mentioning more lately though. Bernard Hopkins vs Winky Wright and Calzaghe vs Kessler they did. They might have for Pavlik Taylor too.

Oh and they mentioned it in the recent Casamayor fight >>

They dont call them "The Ring champion" cuz imagine Peyton Manning being called something like "The Sports Illustrated champion", they dont mention the magazines name, they call them "the linear world champion" like they did in both the Casamayor and Hopkins fights

surely they made a point of NOT mentioning it in the cal/kess fight.

They say about 3 times that 3 belts are on the line, mention there is another belt in the division, which doesnt matter (meaning IBF), there are plenty of conversations about the belts for the fight, and i didnt hear the ring get mentioned once.

There's a world of difference between the two. The Ring isn't just a sports rag. It's probably the most respected source in world boxing, precisely because it has no agenda.

Since Oscar bought it they probably aren't mentioning it by name so as to seem objective. If both of those fights were fought and Ring was discussed a lot it would have seemed like Oscar was the reason why to some. Thats my guess. Plus the Ring has had some shaky rankings lately so I don't know if I quite buy the Bible argument
