As of now Pac is being called out by just about EVERYBODY.
Guererro, D.Diaz, J.Diaz, Casamayor, JMM, Guzman, Soto, Valero
Here are my thoughts. If there's a name which isn't included on the list please add it up and share your thoughts.
Guererro- an up and comer. Not a viable option. Needs to prove himself more.
D. Diaz - MOST LIKELY PAC'S NEXT OPPONENT. Moneywise D.Diaz is the most viable option for an immediate fight. Here are the reasons.
1 Pac will command majority of the purse. Probably as high as 80%. D.Diaz is a good tune-up fight in his jump to the 135 div which he will eventually have to face the 135 KING which is J.Diaz.
2. Arum will get loads of money in this fight. With D.Diaz being his own boy GBP won't take a substantial share of the earnings as opposed to a TP-GBP fighter fights.
J. Diaz - Personally I admire Diaz' skill. His combinations are real fast, he's tough as nails and has the courage similar to that of the Great Morales. But this fight will not be made in the near future in all probability unless some circumstances change.
1. J.Diaz is at this point in his career still not yet a draw. His last fight was a near flop with King handing out free tickets just to put guys on the seats. Although I personally think that J. Diaz' stature as an elite was not PROPERLY PRESENTED TO THE MASSES and it is only now that people begin to realize that he is A TOP ELITE.
2 J.Diaz is handled by King. And for all King Kong is worth it is sure as hell King Kong will ask for a lot of concessions which he isn't in a position to make. Moreover Arum will probably wait for the expiration of J. Diaz' contract then sign him up. A simple idea which if Arum pulls it off then he stands to earn GAZILLIONS OF MONEY.
Casamayor - His last fight was a complete sham. He doesn't deserve his sweepstakes payday and I no longer consider him as the 135 champ.
JMM - The man which I consider as the guy who has the best chance of defeating Pac. This fight will probably happen mid 2008 after Pac fights D.Diaz.
1. JMM is saying he's willing to take a purse cut. But even in a purse cut JMM stands to earn at least 1.5 million to 2 mil. I personally think that fighting Mid 2008 from fighting early 2008 won't matter. JMM isn't a shot fighter and he will have the staying power. A wait of a few months won't matter.
2. Money again. Arum wants monopoly or at least a lion's share of the earnings. Having a GBP boy fight Pac will cut his dollars in half.
Guzman - Guzman blew his shot by performing like a Fake Floyd instead of showcasing his true worth. Had he fought GALLANTLY, Had he fought with more pride and Had he won in a more STUNNING FASHION, then it will be undeniable that he is a top contender.
As of now he is widely seen as an overhyped copycat of Fake Floyd who just likes to run. Guzman is still in line.
At the back end of the line that is.
Soto - lost to Guzman. No Pac sweepstakes for him.
Valero - Pac challenged him yet Valero is again fighting another guy who's practically a nobody. No Pac sweepstakes for him.
