Is that a fair assessment??
Maybe my prejudice won't be appreciated on this board, but I really dislike and hold in low regard those fighters who mouth off like crazy before a fight how great they are and how they'll kill the other guy.
Isn't it funny how they never do that in the ring?? Most of the guys who do that seem to win on slickness and running.
Like when Larry Merchant aptly noted upon a recent Cory Spinks rap dancing ring entrance that the fighters who are the most active outside the ring are least so IN the ring. Mayweather just talks too much for me in consideration of his performances. Yes, he wins, but not like the #1 pound-for-pound all timer he claims to be. What a joke that is. As one announcer noted, he'll make the Hall of Fame based on his many belts, but not on great victories in great fights.
Contrast with Hatton, a maniac and fairly "street" in his gestures inside the ring, but always gentlemanly and well spoken outside the ring. Even about opponents. Look at the lethal Hearns, KO artist Mike Spinks, Foreman, Arguello, and many others: less talk outside the ropes, then incredible performances (much more exciting than Mayweather) inside the ropes.
