"Where are the living legends on Calzaghe's record?"

"The mark of an all-time great fighter is the fights he has had against other living legends."--N.Richardson

Does anyone not agree with this? I mean bigger, smaller, the best fight the best out. I dont know how anyone can say Joe C is the bigger draw or any of that without having beat anyone. I think this quote summarizes Joe Calzaghes hype job, and shows thats what it is, hype. until he mans up and fights Hopkins, his place in history will be forgotten in my opinion. Do yall not agree with this???

He's the living legend someone else beats to put on there resume.

      Pavlik or Hopkins

Or if he beats Hopkins, theres a living legend right here.

AND, maybe guys like KESSLER would become living legends. who knows

no, i hate ****** statements like that.

the mark of an all-time great fighter is how many of the top guys he beats in his own era.

a statement like this makes it sound like there's a lot of "living legends" out there.

what "living legends" did julio cesar chavez beat? edwin rosario? losing to pernell whitaker and getting lucky on the cards?
what "living legends" did ruben olivares beat?
what "living legends" did eder jofre beat?
what "living legends" did larry holmes beat? muhammad ali was basically "dead" as a world class fighter.
what "living legends" did joe louis beat? jersey joe? light heavy billy conn?

calzaghe ain't on the level of these guys, but it's not because he lacks "living legends" on his resume.

Hopkins made a name for himself by beating up smaller guys like De La Hoya, Trinidad and Winky Wright.

But they are all great fighters and recognized as that. I mean in conversation you can say , "man i remember when Bernard beat Delahoya...." and everyone will know thats a legitimate win, i mean just fighting eachother shows legitimacy on both ends. what do yall Calzaghe fans talk about? A decision over Sakio Bika? Peter Manfredo? I guess contender fans would respect Joe "the contender" killer Calzaghe, but he isnt beating or even fighting people that gives him that legend status in my eyes, yet the oppertunity is there and many people would favor him, why not just take the fight and prove the doubters wrong..

The best point made in this thread is about Julio Cesar Chavez... who the **** did he beat?

No one really... most living legends are known for their crowd pleasing style more than anything, at least the ones recognized whilst they are still fighting.

Whitaker and Jones have only recently really become legends of the sport.

Mayweather will take a while to become one after he retires, while Cotto will be a living legend in a couple of years at most.

That's just the way it goes.
