No matter how people here love or hate Floyd, he got 3 more fights before hanging the gloves. I am not going to waste my time and write about how great Floyd is as a boxer. There are thousands of paragraphs about it written by experts, plus his accomplishments at different weights divisions. He is the BEST POUND FOR POUND. My humble opinion ??? You may ask. I believe that he might really want to unify the WW Division, retire rich, undefeated... and it makes lots of sense. He wants to show he is the best ever. He got a great shot to accomplish such a great accomplishment and put Boxing back at the top by unifying the hottest division in boxing at this period and time table... But I believe he will not make it. Before the 3rd fight, Floyd is bound to lose. Here is why;
First fight = Hatton, duh!!! This is the fight to make money and prepare the tables for the money that unifying the division will bring. In order to unify and bring up attention, he most do it on his own. He can'ty shre the spotlight like he did with de La Hoya. At the moment he came out of retirement, Hatton was the fighter who will give him the most money with the lesser challenge. Just think of all the Hatton supporters out there. He is an idol at the other side of the pond. After DLH, who else would had given him the exposure and the big money??? Not Cotto, Margarito nor Mosley. Also, with this move, Cotto would have to fight Margarito or Mosley. That would had taken care of Floyd's "need" to fight them to get 2 belts. Those were the big names at that moment. Let them fight each other first.
Second fight = Cintron and Williams suddenly become champs. That changed everything, except for MayWeather. Now he may go after 2 belts with one shot, without facing Cotto or margarito. (Mosley is out of the picture) . I believe he already showed interest in fighting the winner of Cintron-Williams.
It's at this point of the plan, where I see the most under-rated problem for Floyd. Cintron and Williams got upset tatooed all over their forehead. Paul Williams got good skills, speed, longer reach, throws over 100 punches per round and showed he can take punishment and dance his way around an opponent when he fought Margarito. So in order to hit Williams, MayWeather needs to step inside to a closer range. How is he going to match over 100 fast punches??? How is he going to handle it??? Run? Where??? Williams will catch up. This is a very difficult fight for MayWeather, period. The sad part is that in order to beat MayWeather, you must KO his ass. There is no way to get a decision on Floyd. Even if Williams miraclously outboxes Floyd, you know what judges do when it comes to the best pound for pound or a big time favorite.
That brings me to Cintron. Kermit got a devastating power and "ok" skills, which are supposely been tuned up by Emmanuel Stwart. I don't see Kermit beating MayWeather, but we need to see how he does with Williams before fully assesing his chances. And, he needs to kill Feliciano in the process, obviously. Still, if Cintron beats Williams, it most likely be in the way of a solid KO. That's a big problem for MayWeather. He usually uses rollerblades when he fights... but he better bring the ones with turbo jet packs if he faces Cintron. Kermit got 36 minutes to connect Floyd with one of his famous right power shots and Floyd is dead in the water. If he will be able to do it or not, remains to be seen after he fights Williams.
Third fight = Let's say he get those 2 fights under his belt and decides to go for Cotto's belt. It would all depends on who does Cotto fights next... That is the bigger question. I will love to see Cotto-MayWeather as I think those two are the best WW at the moment. But who is out there able to beat Cotto??? No one . Not Oscar. Not Hatton. Maybe Margarito, maybe Joshua Clottey??? So this third fight if agaisnt Cotto should be the most defining moment in MayWeather's career and a word like legacy is entittled to be considered. Otherwise, Floyd MayWeather Jr. is considered the best pound per pound, but he still needs to prove it. If the above scenario plays out on MayWeather's favor, he may hang off the gloves, undefeated, rich and considered as one of the best ever, period. But somehow, I strongly believe Floyd will go down by the third fight.
I ask others to react to this without the bull**** of "who is going to kick who's ass" without putting some intelligent words in the post.:nono:
