I personally hate fights like this, but if my fighter was Guzman I'd probably be ok with it lol..
But Soto was over anxious the whole night, he started off in the first round with a over agressive jab wich lead to a over agressive exchange wich ultimately lead to Guzman backing up and Boxing the rest of the night. Wasnt nearly as a exciting fight as they made it sound, but that goes for every fast feather fisted boxer I guess. But Soto completely fell right into Guzman's fight game after the first 2 or 3 rounds.
Soto should have stayed calm after the 3rd or 4th and put those quick shots in Guzman's chest with 2's only and then take a step back to reset, instead of trying to dig and stalk. Because for the first part of the fight, Guzman was ready to trade shots and I think that was Soto's only advantage, AND I think that gave Soto a false sense of what was to come later in the fight. After that exchange, Soto probably thought Guzman was going to be willing to try that again for a real fight/exhcange....but no. Instead Guzman decided to box and move backwards from that point on, wich lead him to utilize his hand speed and move back, wich made Soto stalk and play the role of a Boxer's dream. Wich was; Soto pressing the fight, Guzman tappin him a few times and runnin 4 yards backwards. Late in the fight Guzman's own crowd boo'ed him. I can't blame them, I mean I was so excited for this fight but I mean I almost fell asleep after the 8th. But I guess it's better to take a W anyway you can get it, that's the only flaw in Boxing. Ocasionally you get fights like this.
If there is ever a rematch, Soto should just stay more calm and let the fight come to him instead of tryin to overdose it on trying to press a real fight. Take a page from Cotto's playbook, Cotto succesfully Boxed Shane last saturday, even when shane started to get on his toes Cotto still put shots on Shane while he was movin back. Soto should have been paitent like that instead of trying to wing out a crazy KO the whole night. He should have thrown some quick 2's into Guzman's chest and then step back himself, but not run back, just throw his shots and step back. Should have made his fast handed opponent feel like he was the one being slightly out pointed, then make them come into his fight, lol wich is a real fight. Wich would probably end up in some real exchanges.
Round 12 Soto puts his glove out to touch gloves, but Soto slaps Guzman in the face and tries to get Guzman mad and into a fight...wich I thought was just bad ass lol, It was a brilliant attempt by Soto, but Guzman just looked mad and stayed doin what gave him his success.
