Many of today's top fighters have been schooled well defensively and fight with the type of chess-match technical caution that kills great fights. I enjoy it from a purist standpoint, but in terms of balls to the wall standing on your feet screaming at the screen excitement, there aren't a lot of big PPV fights living up to that standard as of late. Kess-Zag and Cotto - Mosley are notable exceptions.
But in the past if a guy fought like Mayweather with that pot shot then get out of there style they would not have won the fight on points.
It seems to me now a days judges are rewarding guys because they are fast. It began with Roy Jones Jr. who was much better then Floyd and has now peeked with Mayweather.
Hell, give a guy like Kellerman a fast moving elusive type fighter ala sweetpea and he starts kissing ass. I find him extremely biased toward that type of boxer and have always been bothered by the praise he heeps upon these reluctant stylists. His idea of a great fighter and that of most fans differ in the fact neither sweetpea or prettyboy were as well recieved as max percieves.
