    EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: SAM PETER
    By Brad Cooney

********** reached out across the pond and caught up with interim heavyweight champion Sam Peter. The champ is preparing for his WBC heavyweight title fight against Oleg Maskaev, scheduled for February 2nd, 2008 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Currently, Sam is in Nigeria where he is training, but also celebrating with his countryman the win over Jameel McCline. ********** was granted this exclusive interview with the champ directly from Nigeria.

BT – Sam thank you for talking to us all the way from Nigeria.

SP – Thank you very much, how are you guys doing?

BT – Doing great, can you give us some thoughts on your upcoming title fight against Oleg Maskaev?

SP – Well I have waited a long time for this fight to happen, and it's finally going to happen. Right now I am training here in Nigeria Africa getting ready. I feel good, and I look forward to getting this fight once and for all.

BT – Are you in Africa to celebrate and train?

SP – Yes, training and to share my heavyweight title with my people here in Africa. I was also invited to meet the president of Nigeria, and everything went well.

BT – That must have been very exciting for you to meet the president of your country.

SP – Well yes it was nice, and he promoted me to commissioner of the police in my country. There were a lot of people there to receive me. Saturday I will go to my home city and I will meet with my fans there.

BT – Sam do you have a police background?

SP – Yes, ever since I was 16 years old I was a police officer since school.

BT – Have you been back to your home city since you have been back to Africa?

SP – I have been in the capital since I have been here and Saturday morning I will go to my home city, all of the people will be waiting for me. It's exciting for me.

BT – What did you learn coming out of your fight against Jameel McCline?

SP – Well I made a few mistakes, but he hit me behind my head. The ref said break, and he hit me behind the head. He also pushed me a few times, but I give him credit, he came to fight. I knew I had to fight hard to keep my title, I was very happy to come back and win. He had quicker hands than I thought he did. I was getting ready for someone else in camp though, so it was a little change fighting him.

BT – How do you match up against Oleg Maskaev?

SP – Well I think there is one way to fight him, and if I stay to my plan I will beat him.

BT – How do you feel about fighting at Madison Square Garden?

SP – Well it's nice to fight there where all of the legends have fought before. It's a beautiful place to fight.

BT – Do you have any closing thoughts?

SP – I want to thank my fans for waiting with me to become the heavyweight champion of the world. I want to thank all of them for their support.
