How many more fights before Cotto retires?

I'm serious. I believe he has two, maybe three fights left and then he's out of boxing. The reason I say this is because I overheard a conversation that he and Evangelista had after one of his wins (maybe Quintana or Paulie, don't remember which), in which Cotto said something to the effect of, "I told you we'd do it. We're almost there. I'm going to reach our set-number of fights and retire with my health." After hearing that, I posted something up on this board (I'd have to find it but I'm too lazy to look for it now).

Now, with the current situation out there, do you think he'd fight 2-3 more times and retire? I mean, he can fight Margarito in Feb, DLH in May, and then what? Mayweather? I don't think that Floyd will ever fight Cotto (because of his extreme hatred for Bob Arum), for any amount of money (also a reason I don't think he wanted to fight Margarito for 8 Million).

    Thoughts?

If he gets smoked in those next 2-3 fights, then there's a decent chance he retires. If he continues winning....no way he quits.

What makes you think Cotto is in any way different than any other elite fighter ?

I wouldn't mind seeing him fight 4 more times and than retiring.

I think if he's able to get by Margarito and DLH (the two big fights out there with people not named Mayweather), he'll have nothing left to prove. I don't think Mayweather will fight him and I think he's made enough money to call it quits and enjoy his life with his kids.

Plus, the fact that I know he has a set timetable to retire makes me think it's coming up. Tell me, if he beats Margo and DLH, and Ricky loses to PBF (who, we'll assume, won't fight Cotto), who can Cotto fight that will make him enough money? After $5M for Mosley, probably another $5M for Margo, and at least $8-9M for DLH, do you think he'll want to fight some bum for $3M? Who will he be able to find that will be willing to make less than $500,000? No other fights out there are big money fights.

Also, Cotto's contract with Top Rank guarantees him $3M plus one fight in PR a year (that's why Cotto's next fight will be in PR). That contract, I believe, only has three more fights left on it. Wasn't it a 8-fight deal starting with Malignaggi?

If guys like Roy Jones & Shane Mosley are STILL fighting, I have to believe any timetable that shows Cotto retiring fairly soon, is waaaay off.

Floyd will never fight an elite p4p fighter at 147. Not even for a billion dollars. His 0 is that precious to him.

You may want to broaden your boxing horizons. Obsessing over one fighter will really keep you from enjoying all that the game offers. Just imagine if your one & only retires, is permanently injured, or passes away ? What will you have then ?
