Hopkins: I'll give Calzaghe a face-lift.
I guarantee you Mr Hopkins, that would not be the case.
Bernard Hopkins believes that he would rearrange Joe Calzaghe’s facial features if the Welshman decides to get into the ring with him.
Calzaghe unified the super-middleweight division with an impressive points victory over Mikkel Kessler just over a week ago and immediately set his sights on a bout at light-heavyweight against ring legend Hopkins.
Nothing has yet been agreed but Hopkins is more than a little keen on the proposed superfight, because he would love nothing more than to go to work on one of boxing's few 'pretty boys'.
"If the people of Wales want their champion to still look handsome, then tell him to stay at home," the former undisputed middleweight champion warned.
"But if he wants a face-lift, then come over to America and I'll rearrange everything for free.
"Calzaghe has called me out and said he's willing to come to the States. Well, I'll be the first to welcome him."
And Hopkins reiterated his belief that the onus is on Calzaghe to travel for the fight because ‘The Executioner’ feels that the undefeated Welshman has yet to establish himself as a major player in the United States.
"If Calzaghe stood on Fifth Avenue in New York, no one would know who he is,” the 42-year-old claimed.”
"If I stood in Cardiff city centre, I guarantee people would recognise me because of my legendary status."
