Did Cotto drop a little in your eyes this weekend?

Don't get me wrong, great performance, clear improvement in boxing and all that, but... he seems less exciting when his chin holds up.

I was on and off throughout (it didn't finish till 6:30am over here, I couldn't help it) but I didn't see him in any real trouble.

Before this fight he was in my top ten favourite fighters. But with his "Oscar vs. Tito" act in the twelfth round, now I'm not so sure. Last weekend I saw a fighter that had clearly won on points go toe-to-toe with his hands down in the final round... this week I saw one that was arguably ahead on points get on his bike.

Cotto + greater punch resistance + on his bike = not the full deal. Give the guy a boxing brain and a half way decent chin and suddenly he's a lot less interesting.

Does this one performance erase all of his other times where he went to-to-toe? I don't think so.

If anything, it raises his esteem, because he showed that he can give guys new looks.

But bringing his bike into the ring for the 12th round?

I prefer it when the silly ****er gets wobbled and rallies back. He's no fun when he doesn't wobble.

Well, that's different. You're speaking from the point of view of a guy who just wants to see damage. Cotto had his career and family in mind.

I picked Cotto to win but I had no idea he would impress me as much as he did. He didn't impress me as much as Mosley looking as great as he did at 36, but he impressed me a lot. His chin held up well, he went toe to toe at times, he showed he has some boxing ability, and can give his opponets angles, he switched stances a couple times, and never once did anything illegal when it seemed like he was hurt.

Cotto earned my respect last night, for real. He's not as one dimensional as everybody had him pegged for, myself included.

No, I'm speaking from the point of view who expects boxers to box for all twelve rounds when contracted to do so.
