  • What did The Contender Season 3 accomplish?

Obviously last night it gave us a great fight, but what else? Did it really make boxing any more mainstream? Did it really bring any promising fighters to the forefront? Or was it just another over-hyped over-dramatized reality tv show?

I enjoyed this season a lot more than the others but looking back on it, I wonder if it accomplished anything. Thoughts?

The first season is what helped make boxing garner more fans. This one brought attention to some pretty good boxers and gave us an all time great fight.

Four things, in my personal opinion..

      - Brought the fight to a larger than usual audience for a fight of that level, and it delivered.
      - Gave two fighters not at the top level, the chance for some decent exposure/money.
      - Technically, proved that the true contenders of the world can rise to the top, and that the better of them, essentially won. (Though, you could say "The Don" has better skills, he didn't show them, so it doesn't matter)
      - Proved that if done correctly, with the right blend of fighters, in terms of stories and backgrounds, aswell as skills and level of opposition, the series can actually do some good.

The fighters were better I think. The fights were better this season. Actualy had fighters that mattered in the rankings like cod, sam and bika. The weight class was also a good choice because of the balance of skill and power at that weight.
