Benjy Esteves:Third man in the ring with Cotto and Shane

    http://www.elnuevodia.com/diario/not...cuerdas/310349

I will traduce the best I can.

Benjy Esteves will be the third man in the ring with Cotto and Mosley next saturday.

"He is pure blood puertorican and has a lot of experience in championship fights. It was between him and Steve Smoger" says the President of the Puerto Rican boxing commision José ‘Toto’ Peñagarícano.

"Smoger has more experience than Esteves, yes, but Esteves has never gotten complaints in his fights, and team Mosley didn't oppose to the fact that he was puertorican" added Peñagarícano.

Esteves, 51, has been refereeing for over 25 years in both amateur and proffesional boxing. Including Hopkins-Tarver and Diaz-Morales.

Peñagarícano had solicited to the NY Boxing Comission to name a puertorican judge, but it was not allowed.

The judges will be Wynn Kintz ( NY ), Glenn Feldman ( Conn ) and Peter Trematerra ( FL ).

    ------

Also said that Tito Trinidad will be there, but not to support Cotto. That he will be there with RJJ to do a little press conference somewhere in MGS and a unnamed source said that it's Don King trying to leech some of that press to his fight in January.

Hope this helped some of you.

It's nice to know the ref will be "pureblood Puerto Rican."

Very reassuring.. Did they blood test him first to make sure?

Wow. Sorry. It was my mistake. What Pe~agaricamo meant was "with puertorican blood". The term "pureblood" puertorican it's a contradiction in itself. And i apologize.

Good, I like Benjy, he's a good ref.

Yep. I find it very ****ed up that they didn't allow a puertorican judge. But oh well.

I dont understand why so many people care so much about those low blows. I know that one was accidental, and the other was on purpose ( the first ). It's strategy. Dont forget that Judah low blowed Mayweather in a very rude and obvious way. Karma's a *****.

                AND THIS IS COTTO'S PROMOTER

Excerpt taken from a recent interview in response to Cottos comment in the sig

Then Bob Arum promptly cut in.

Now, I’m not saying that Miguel Cotto is a dirty fighter. I’m not even implying that Cotto is a dirty fighter because the fact of the matter is that Cotto is one of my favorites in this game. I’m just saying that his statement gives me pause. Was the emotional and oft-maligned Judah onto something? Is Cotto willing to do ANYTHING to win, even at the expense of sportsmanship? Perhaps the answer can be found buried within Cotto’s own words, perhaps not. I don’t know, but I certainly hope not, because the one thing that boxing doesn’t need is another black eye.

I would have preferred Steve Smoger to Benjy simply because of Smoger's experience and the fact that he gave us the war that was Taylor/Pavlik. I can't say I'm not concerned that the referee is Puerto Rican because I don't want to see Cotto getting away with more than what should be allowed.

I wouldnt read to much into the fact that he's PR, cant really recall him to be honest. Smogers my favourite ref and i would hav liked him to ref this he'd allow it to be the war it must! Plus Cotto will get hurt im sure but smoger gives u the chance to come back from that where other refs mite stop it!
