Warren Not Sold On Hopkins' Willingness

LONDON: Promoter Frank Warren is encouraged to hear that Bernard Hopkins is ready to fight Joe Calzaghe. Unfortunately, he's heard it all before. [details]

This is what Dan Rafael wrote:

This is not the first time there has been talk about a Hopkins-Calzaghe fight. In July 2002, Hopkins, who was then with promoter Don King, was on the verge of signing a three-fight deal with Showtime, which was televising Calzaghe bouts at the time. In the second fight of the proposed deal, Hopkins would have moved up from middleweight to super middleweight to challenge Calzaghe in early 2003. But the deal imploded when Hopkins, who had initially agreed, backed out.

"That's water under the bridge, and I don't want to go back over it," Hopkins said. "This is a new time, and my thing is, his career is where it is and my career is where it is. We should fight."

This fight would bore my pants off and it would be a sad day for boxing when a 36-year-old against a 43-year-old is considered a 'super-fight' or whatever

If it doesn't happen then its a disgrace, the main reason calz has never had the big American fights is he doesn't bring enough money to the table as a counter weight to the fact his opponent may lose, now he's a bigger name with the ability to bring in the bigger money theres no excuses.

i disagree ..this is the ONLY fight I would like to see B-hop have, he is proven that he can compete at an elite level with Winky and Tarver.how ever boring it is. It would hbe an interesting match up IMO. jOE just dominated the second top guy in his division who happend to be undefeated and prime.

these guys are no Baldomir or George Foreman still fighting. they are elite

            Hopkins vs Calzaghe

Hopkins is an old man who really makes boring fights!!! He has had a great run, but I would rather watch Joe fight a strong ,active, younger boxer. He handled Kessler beautifully it would be a shame to see Hopkins turn this into a snoozefest.

Would this have anything to do with the fact that you picked Kessler to beat Calzaghe?

Frank Warren needs to stop bull****ting and make it look like B-hop won't take the fight. B-hop wants this fight and he will take it. He has no choice at this stage of his career. He is in a hurry to get in one more win before he grows even older.

Frank Warren is cooking up something here.
