Actually they fought 4 times and Nelson TKOed him once. Of course Leija couldn't hold Nelson's jockstrap, but indeed, he (Nelson) was a bit past it and already had like 20 title fights and had been fighting for about 15 years leading up to their first match.. -
He and Gabriel Ruelas got robbed when they went up against Azumah Nelson. But, Nelson later avenged that draw to a win, then a lose again to Lejia then another win then a lose. I think they fought 3-4 times. Ruelas fought him 2 twice but by the second time Ruelas was not there mentally anymore not after what happened with Jimmy Garcia an opponet of Ruelas.
Was Leija better then Nelson? Overall no. But on any given night Leija could beat Nelson as he did.
Im not to sure about Nelsons career but I belive he was on the old side.
Oh and lets remember that when two old fighter fought Azumah Nelson v. Genaro Hernandez. Hernandez won, this was after Nelson ko'd Leija and when Jones Jr. said no one could beat Nelson and Hernandez wouldn't be able too, but Hernandez proved Jones and many wrong.Comment

You're a joke at least give Leija credit he was a good fighter and he just had the style to beat Nelson. They gave the fight to Nelson there first time.Comment

Like I said, Leija couldn't hold Nelson's jockstrap and to dispute this shows that you simply know nothing about boxing.Comment

Yeah, as if Nelson was so on the slide when Leija go to him that he keep fighting and wining the title back. Just give it up Nelson wasn't invinacle. Leija was to Nelson what, Ken Norten was to Muhammed Ali.Comment
