Vazquez Forced To By Pass Third Battle With Marquez?

Super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez and Mexican paison Rafael Marquez thrilled fans with two legitimate fight of the year match-ups this year. 13 rounds of pure, non-tainted warfare over two fights with each man owning a technical knockout over the other.

Two times was not enough, with fans and experts asking for the third installment of Vazquez vs. Marquez during the first quarter of 2008. The first two fights were such thrillers that a third affair seemed to be a slam dunk no brainer; it was even mentioned Mexico City might play host to the rubber match.

Well something has gone wrong in the negotiations for the third thriller Contracts have not been signed, promoters have not discussed details, and Showtime (which aired the two fights) has not locked in a date.

A source close to the situation informed Boxing Confidential that the clear lack of progress regarding the fight might push the hand of the World Boxing Council to require their champion Vazquez defend against the the #2 contender Naphapol Kiattisakchocchoi of Thailand.

Seems as if the Council feels Gary Shaw (promoter of Marquez, along with Romanza Boxing) and Golden Boy/Sycuan Ringside (representing Israel Vazquez) are not working on the bout diligently and would like to see their championship defended in the first few months of 2008.

The Council may make this decision official during their upcoming convention in Manila, which takes place for seven days starting on November 11.

Sanctioning bodies has never been known for their logical or fair rulings and forcing Vazquez to defend against a no name Thai would be senseless. Marquez and Vazquez give everything their bodies have to offer to boxing in a pair of grueling bouts, along with lining the purses of Jose Sulaiman and the WBC by paying sanctioning fees, and in turn are repaid by forcing Vazquez to put the strap on the line against non-distinct competition because promoters are not doing their jobs?

Maybe Vazquez should consider dumping the championship in the trash, a la Rid**** Bowe, and wait for a fight that matters regardless of titles which may or may not be on the line.

and here is a highlight video from the WBHOF "Fight of the Year"

yeah they MUST fight for the rubber to settle it once and for all!

anyone know anything of this thai dude whos the mandatory?

Why don't they just let Vazquez/marquez 3 happen first. Then force who ever wins that fight to fight Naphapol Kiattisakchocchoi, problem solved.

WHOA, WHOA. you need to relax. Just be like Sulaiman and keep logic out of the equation, otherwise the sport may prosper again.

Both of their fights were great and a third fight would figure out the true champ and also bring us another exciting fight. Hopefully everything is figured out and they get in the ring together again. By the way alphaqfrankie could you also get me a Vasquez autograph. PM me for my Info.
