How could this fight not happen???
Both guys have called eachother out, they desperately want it, its a big fight over there AND over here...
both guys are gonna make a lot of money...
What could possibly get in the way???
Determining the split should be exciting, and I don't know if Calzaghe wants to fight in the US or if Hopkins wants to fight in Wales.
Only time will tell.

Style match-up's
This fight will definitely take place at some pt during '08. As someone referenced earlier, both men have called each other out and it's the only fight that makes dollars & sense for either man. I can't take anythang away from Calzaghe after watching his performance this past weekend against Kessler. He showed a good chin, he made adjustments when necessary, but more importantly was more determined not to lose. My only challenge to him would be to leave Wales, leave the comfort of his many supporters and fight on US soil. This is no longer his realm at super middle. If he wants to go 7 lbs north to defeat the world recognized champ at 175 then he should come to Hopkins and take it (if he can). Many people like to focus on US venues not being able to accomodate 50,000 fans; however, if you include the worldwide ppv sales as well as the close-circuit tv sales along w/ the live gate revenue then it will more than suffice.
As for the fight itself, no one should ever discredit or count B-Hop out of a fight. You have to keep in mind that the bulk of his career was spent at 160 so he's fought guys with good hand & foot speed. He also is undefeated against southpaws, but more importantly Hopkins is a consummate tactician in the ring. Although Kessler fought with alot of heart, his inexperience against someone of Calzaghe's caliber showed in those later rds. That wont be the case against Hopkins who in my opinion implements fight plans as well as anyone who's ever laced up a pair of gloves. He's also excellent at exposing any weaknesses his opponent may have which he showed against tarver, wright & a host of other good fighters or soon to be hof'ers. As always, people will try to use his age as a disadvantage but the critics have been saying that for years (considering he's 41 or 42). Hopkins has never taken alot of punishment, he's always in excellent condition, and he's disciplined so he's not your typical 40yr old athlete. Do not expect a blowout decision by Joe C. This fight will be a competitive chess match from start to finish (Hopkins has a lot more tricks than Kessler or anyone else Calzaghe has ever faced.)Last edited by Hitman88; 11-05-2007, 09:30 AM.
