I was watching the fight last night asking myself:
"what does Calzaghe do BETTER than Jones"?

    Handspeed? Be real.

    Footspeed/footwork? Not Joe's best feature.

    Power? Snort, chuckle.

Defense? Joe's activity IS his defense, much like Ouma/P-Dub.

Chin? Joe seems to have the better chin.

Conditioning? Not an issue for EITHER guy.

Ring Smarts/Confidence/Intangibles? I gotta go with Roy

I'll take Jones but it won;t be like the fight he had against Toney, moreso like the fight he had against Hopkins or Tarver 1.

Growing some balls... like, facing James Toney at 168? I mean, isn't that the weight we are talking about here?

He whitewashed the undefeated P4P elite James "Lights Out" Toney, who was still a technical defensive master counterpuncher, and was in-shape. Jones made Toney look average, at best, that night.

I agree with the whole post and also picked Jones. but you understate Joe's one huge advantage. Joe's chin is one of the best in boxing, Roy's is outright bad. In fact the chins cancel out the power in this fight, no way there would be a knockout.

Agree with you there. At 168lbs RJJ has better handspeed, footspeed, reflexes and power. Calz impressed me against Kessler and he stepped it up and had more in the tank than I've seen him show in a long time but RJJ is as you stated on another level.

I would even also put JT over Calz. Calz is a great SMW but just falls short of those guys IMHO.

Joe's power - certainly a few years back - is also underrated.

(Note for those hard of thinking: in no way did I say it was comparable to RJJ's. You noticed that, right? I made a statement that did not require a tedious strawman argument attached to it).
