Zarate also won lastnight by TKO....
By Rocco Morales at ringside
Setup by a vicious lead right cross, #4 WBA super bantamweight contender Julio "La Sombra" Zarate drove very game opponent Vernie Torres against the ropes into a sitting position and then unleashed two vicious uppercuts to stop Torres via TKO at 2:58 in the fourth round on Friday night at the Doubletree in Ontario, CA. It was a very competitive fight with Torres flooring Zarate in the second round. Preceding the knockout, Zarate landed a hard foul, a straight right hand low blow that floored Torres. At the time of the stoppage, however, Torres seemed 100% recovered from the lowblow and was acting increasingly confident, seemingly trying to instigate the slugfest that he probably wished did not unfold. With the win, Zarate moves to 26-4-1, 16 KOs and keeps himself in title contention. Torres drops to 27-11, 15 KOs. (More to come)
